Standing/ walking for too long starts a flare up

Hi everyone,

Just for context I'm 24 and been diagnosed with endo 5 years ago today actually haha! Yesterday I walked a lot because I got lost in a city I was walking for around half an hour with one sitting break to use my phone and Google maps. Ever since this I have the most heavy dragging feeling very low in my pelvis right in the middle where I assume my womb is. I also get really bad low central back pain if I stand up still for 20 minutes or more. I don't know if this is worth seeing a GP for. I noticed it for awhile but now i have a hot water bottle and curled up at my desk.

Any advice be very much appreciated.

I am exactly the same, my job involved long periods of standing, thankfully things have been adapted and I have a seat I can use. But that heavy dragging feeling I do get. I am waiting for lap to check for Endo on the bowel so I wondered if it had something to do with that, I’m not sure. But I’m so sorry you have this too, sorry not great advice but I defo get the same feeling x

Hi thanks for the reply, sorry to hear that you get this too. what do you do give you relief if you don't mind me asking. And please keep posted about your lap would be great to see an update once you get one and best of luck for it xx

Aww thank you, I will do. I use a heat pad round my pelvis it’s called a cycle soother, it along with my naproxen seems to help me through the shift x

I’ve had pelvic pain after standing for long periods of time (which eventually became short periods of time..) for 8 or 9 years now and this is the first time I’ve seen someone else mention it on here. For me personally since the last few months, if I don’t sit down soon after it starts to happen the pain will stick around for hours and doesn’t seem to be relieved by anything. The only thing that seems to have helped me is starting on the progesterone only pill, since taking this I still get pain but it’s been milder and doesn’t turn into the hours of pain I used to get if I didn’t immediately stop what I was doing. I wish I could tell you the reason for this but I’m still trying to get a diagnosis (currently waiting for lap and no endo shown on an ultrasound) so currently still clueless! So sorry you also have to experience this too, your post has definitely helped me feel less alone though and I hope things can get sorted for you soon xx

Hallo! I used to get these flare ups while on my period, and like oceandaisies I’d need to sit down quickly (and take my very strong painkillers) otherwise the pain would dial to 11 and stay for hours. Once I was shopping with my mum and the pain started. I ended up hobbling to a cafe and had to sit (very awkwardly) at a table with a white face for half an hour before the pain started to subside.

In my case, my endo caused blood-filled cysts called endometriomas which eventually burst. This was so painful I fainted, was taken to A&E by ambulance and ended up having an emergency laparoscopy.

Have you ruled out endometriomas? They’re normally visible via a transvaginal scan. Whatever the cause, it’s not normal for your body to experience such violent flare ups and you should get checked out by your gp/endo gynae.

You have probably put a strain on your back which has caused your sacral ligament to put pressure on your endo implants. See a good chiropractor (one trained a Bournemouth College). They should ease the pressure and align your back. The problem is when you get the painful cramps it pulls on this ligament and can pull your back out of alignment, sometimes putting pressure on a nerve and then you get tingling sensations in the leg or even pain in the leg. Walking may have caused more inflammation adding to your already inflamed endo. Have you looked at an anti inflammatory diet to try and reduce your inflammation? Check out endometriosis.co.uk
