1 week post laparoscopy

Hi Everyone, I’m 1 week post laparoscopy and I’m just looking for some reassurance! I had endo excised from my left & right pelvic side wall and POD. Still waiting for the full report from my dr but hopefully should receive that later this week.

I wasn’t really prepared for how fatigued I’d still feel after a week. I’m only managing very short walks and any small tasks like washing my dishes, washing my hair, bending down to pick something up, walking quicker than a snail’s pace etc. is making my stomach/back very sore and completely exhausting me. Is this to be expected still? How long will this take to feel more normal?

I’m incredibly frustrated and sad and bored and sore. Any reassuring words or just assurance that this is normal and it does get better would be really appreciated! Or if this is not normal at all then please do tell me ❤️

Thanks so much xx

Hi Yellow-Moo! Yes this is TOTALLY normal, in fact I would be surprised if you didn't feel this way just 1 week later. I know that the holes are tiny on the outside, but on the inside there has been lots of trauma and your body needs time to heal. It takes up to 6 months to fully heal internally, even when the outside looks healed.

Please don't be doing too much! If you feel pain during/after doing something that is a signal you have done TOO MUCH. Please follow your aftercare and only do very limited activities this first few weeks, not too much and certainly not any heavy housework! Use this as a good time to get people to do some jobs for you :) if you feel lots of pain I would contact your hospital where you had the surgery and speak to the post surgery team.

Thanks so much. I thought this was the case but so good for someone else to confirm it!

Hi Yellow-Moo. This sounds completely normal! In fact one week post surgery I definitely had not washed my hair yet, wasn’t bending down, or doing dishes! I know it can be hard asking for help but it’s really important to let your body heal and not to do anything that feels uncomfortable.

I’m terrible at resting too and also got pretty down, bored and frustrated but the more you relax now the faster you will heal.

Please try to take it easy and be kind on yourself! Progress isn’t always linear and I felt MUCH better after my laparoscopy by week two than week one so hang in there. Try and set yourself up with a very basic routine of rest and self care. Also I was advised to keep pain medication topped up in the first couple of weeks, it is much easier to keep the pain at bay.

Sending you love! Please reach out if you need to ❤️
