So I’m almost 2 years post op (April) after finding stage 4 endo having 1 ovary and fallopian tube removed and as much of the endo removed as possible.
my periods have started to become extremely irregular and I have been in agony. My consultant is sending me for a scan to see if she can see anything going on but has suggested a radical hysterectomy due to the extent of my endometriosis.
I have just turned 30 is there anyone else who has had a hysterectomy this young and how was it for you? I’m really concerned the effects have a hysterectomy will have whilst I’m still you .
Thanks 😊

I am not as young as you - I am 37 though and had a total hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. I am lucky in that I have been able to have two children beforehand though and therefore your decision will very much be made around whether you want children (or more children if you already have children). I have also kept my ovaries so that hormones can still be produced so that I don’t go into menopause at such an early age, however I have been advised that I am more at risk of endometriosis returning as a result (my surgeons view was that they can always take them out later if need be). Endometrial Ablasions are another alternative treatment if hysterectomy is too drastical for you at this age. All the best whatever you decide!
thank you for getting back to me. I had a lot of my endometriosis removed in the past and now only have 1 ovary left which isn’t in a very good way, which is why she has suggested full hysterectomy removing everything. we do have one daughter and have been trying for 18 months for more children but nothing is happening
I’m so sorry to hear that you have been experiencing fertility issues, that must be so tough and make things so much harder for you! Also, as you have had one ovary removed already, I can understand why you are hesitant to have a full hysterectomy! It is too early for me to say whether the hysterectomy has worked or not, but hopefully someone else on hear can give you more insight… it might be worthwhile asking what the other options might be… a mirena coil was something that was suggested for me and I get that won’t help you get pregnant, however perhaps use of it for a while will help with the pain to give your body a break before trying again (obviously best asking your gp what they think also). I have also found therapy extremely helpful for pain management in case that’s an option for you to compliment other treatments.
