Is surgery the best option?

Beautyintheordinary profile image

I have been diagnosed with a 5cm cyst on both ovaries, potential other endometias too, and one of my tubes seems twisted, potentially endo in the space between uterus and bowels also...I'm 27.

Been dealing with it for over 11 years now, only recently been listened to and finally diagnosed.

I've looked into the different pills etc but not a fan and don't want to be popping pills on the regular, I'm leaning more towards having the cysts etc removed, been told by the doc that this should allviate the majority of my pain.

Anyone got any insight into surgery recovery, the pros VS cons of surgery VS other treatments...

Really struggling to just...relax....breathe...feel normal right now!!

Thanks in advance x

Hello, you’ve got all the same medical issues I had. I had a 7cm cyst on one ovary, causing ovarian torsion (twisting tubes), and endometriosis. You must be a lot of pain.

My advice would be to have the surgery. It’s not nice, but you’ll be pain-free again afterwards, and you’ll be able to enjoy life again x x

I had a 7cm cyst removed and 6 years pain free, before I got another one. The lap is not pleasant but well worth it.

do it! Removing them is gonna give you your energy and oomf back as they suck the life out of you subtlety and slowly!!

Hey! I've been through two ovarian cystectomies (one in 2019 and one in 2021). I've had cysts on both ovaries measuring over 5cm and recently have found more so it's back to the waiting list. I completely agree with others, get the op! It does alleviate the pain however, be advised that cysts are known to return.

If you decide to go ahead with the op be sure to talk to the anaesthetist about having more anaesthetic through your bloodstream rather than gas/air - I had chronic shoulder pain from the gas trapped in my body after surgery. It felt like my nerves were being pulled! The second time around the anaesthetist avoided this. x
