a year after finding an endometrioma I finally heard back for a date of surgery.i had my laproscopy on 7th September and they ended up making 4 incisions.
I was toooo out of it and emotional when the surgeon came to the day ward and I couldn't understand what she was saying. She said she'd send me an appointment to talk it over in a few weeks. Which suited me better.
The appointment came through for 2months later which is a while to go yet... and all I have on the discharge is that the endometrioma was removed successfully but I have a lot of 'inactive endometriosis' on my ovaries, bladder, bowel and 'pouch of douglas' which I have no idea what organ that is supposed to be!
'inactive endometriosis' turns up a lot of rubbish on Google.my question is what does it mean?

could it mean adhesions maybe? I’ve also never heard that term. Maybe it’s where you’ve had endo and it’s turned into scar tissue. I also have this quite extensively in pouch if Douglas and rectum area.
i suppose that's possible. Shame there's no info online about inactive endometriosis, none that I could find anyway. I wonder if they'll be able to tell me when it started and when it became inactive. My wounds are all healed up now but I still can't do much bending or moving in general so I'm also wondering if they treated the inactive patches and how. Hopefully all will be answered at the appointments but I can't help wondering in the meantime.
i hope it is a better diagnosis. Though I didn't know any of this existed so it's still a big shock and hard to be patient for the appointment. That's another wonder, if it's inactive was it removed and how. As I'm in a lot of pain despite my wounds all being healed up
Hi, the Pouch of Douglas is the area between the back of the uterus and the rectum, inactive means that there is scarring where endometrial deposits were bleeding but they have switched off - think of inactive volcanoes!
When you see the consultant you will most likely get to see pictures of these taken whilst the surgery was being performed. In terms of healing - skin takes between 7-21 days, muscle tissue 6-12 weeks, ligaments 3-5months and nerves 12-18months. Soluable internal stitches usually are good for 90days in contact with body fluids. Hence the appt at 6-8 weeks post op gives a better idea of how a patient is recovering as the body's inflammatory process is settling at this stage.
thank you so much for this information. Its really helpful. Especially the healing times for different areas. As they just told me 4-6 weeks which sure enough the stitches on the outside were gone by week 5. But I am still having a lot of pain and if I over-exert, like I did at the weekend (just laundry and a bit of tidying!) I bleed and cramp. Was starting to get frustrated with myself as I'm at the end of week 6 as of tomorrow. Thank you very much. As scary as it is I'm looking forward to seeing the surgeon to ask all my burning questions.
