I have endometriosis, adenomyosis, IBS and a history of cyst problems, I had surgery a year ago and was fitted with the mirena coil, my periods stopped for 6 months before slowly restarting and of course there now getting worse 😭 the pain I can deal with currently but I’m having big problems around ovulation, I end up so bloated I’m left bedridden because I’m some nauseous, which in turns leaves me shivering or sweating and i can barely eat because even the smallest amount of food leaves me feeling over full 🤷♀️, it eventually improves a day or so before I start my period.
I follow the low food map diet which up until the last 2 months has worked really well for me and the bloating.
does any body here experience similar problems? Or any advice ?
I’m at a loss, I’m heading towards ovulation again and just the very thought of a repeat of last month is filling me with dread, I’m not sure how many more days like that I can cope with 😭, should I be going back to the consultant ?
Thanks for reading

Hi! I have endometriosis and just got fitted recently with the mirena coil too.
I am on an anti inflammatory diet/gluten free that has definitely helped my bloating and nausea.
My doctor told me that I have to wait until I have had the mirena in 6 months until I can change it/take it out if it’s causing problems, and as you have had it in for more than 6 months I would go back to your doctor and see them about it.
Did this happen before the mirena too?
Im sorry this is happening to you, being bed bound for days on end SUCKS!!!!
I’ve had this issue on and off for years but since being on the mirena, I hadn’t had it for nearly 10 months, but now it’s back and worse than ever. I don’t think the mirena is causing it.
Im not a fan of the Drs anymore and dread asking for help, the last one was so dismissive I came out and cried.
I may see if I can get an appointment with the gynaecologist.
Hi. I have the same conditions. Just post surgery and haven’t had my follow up yet. My surgeon/gynae told me that i would need a higher dose of progesterone due to extensive adeno. A regular dose may not be enough and in your case it sounds like the mirena alone is not suppressing ovulation. See the consultant again.
The point you have just made is a interesting one, I had the mirena fitted 12 months ago but continued taking the pill until the end of January. By the April my periods had started to return (maybe as the pill left my system), they’ve slowly started to get worse, but the trouble around ovulation is dire, this nausea is unbearable i dry heaved for 20 hrs last time and it took me nearly a week to feel like I was back to normal.
I think I will go back to the consultant again and see, if going on too the pill as well is an option
Thankyou again and I hope your recovering well and you get the much needed respite
I think it all makes sense then. I have also been told that if u were getting cysts the mirena can make them worse. The pill would stop that, the pain you describe does sound a bit like a possible endometrioma?? Let me know how you get on, i need to make similar decisions 😃
