hi all, was wondering if I could have any advise from any ladies that have been in a similar situation I started with horrific pain in my belly moving to my right lower side a few days ago which has got gradually worse. I went to my gp who sent me straight to the surgical assessment unit in the hospital as they were concerned it could be appendicitis. I explained I have endometriosis but it hasn’t ever presented as stabbing pains only on my lower right side before. Bloods were tested and came back normal and obs were ok , having an ultrasound later but the surgeons have suggested an emergency laparoscopy later to investigate and asked if I’m happy with this or only other option is stay on morphine and hope it gets better on its own. I am terrified as I had my last laparoscopy six months ago and it was a horrific recovery for me. They are saying they don’t think it’s appendicitis as I don’t have any sign of inflammation in my blood so I’ve explained could it be endo but on a different organ? Sorry to ask but any advice on whether I should take the laparoscopy would be hugely appriecated. I’m 23 and really scared they will open me up again but find nothing this time and I’m risking my body going through surgery for them to find nothing. Sorry and thank you. I also have a pretty bad complex of thinking I’m over exaggerating everything and it’s not real so I’m really struggling with what if they don’t find anything? I know something is wrong as I’m in so much pain and can’t stand up but so many years of being told it’s just period pain does that to someone 😞 ( my last lap 6 months ago they found endo on my pouch of Douglas, ovarian fossa and sacral ligament and excised this)

Hi - was you last surgery done at a specialist endo centre as uterosacral ligament endo (and POD endo if it was infiltrating) is classed as severe and must only be carried out at a centre by a multidisciplinary team? You would be discharged at 6 months from the centre but only if you were not suffering symptoms still. If you are under a centre I'd contact the endo nurse.

You need an advanced scan by someone qualified in looking for rectovaginal endo. Most sonographers don't have this skill. So say that you want a sonographer with expertise in carrying out the 'sliding sign' to check if your uterus and bowel are stuck together with deep fibrosis given your history of what sounds like severe endo. It is also possible that your ovary has got stuck down as you had endo in the fossa where the ovaries sit. So they need to check for ovary mobility too.

If something of an emergency nature shows on the scan such as ovarian torsion then it would be necessary for them to intervene immediately but I would be very wary of them doing a lap otherwise as they wouldn't be able to operate on any severe endo as that can only be done in a centre.

ask for an MRI, rhis will give a clear indication if theres a problem with your organs or if the endo has caused issues. Mine has caused a complex large cyst by growing over a simple one. But without mri or lap, you wobt get any answers
