Hiya - you can get it from other sources for sure. I had a tubo-ovarian abscess (PID) in the past and it wasn't from an STI, I was tested (and wasn't sexually active at the time either). The doctors at the time put it down to a "cyst that went funny", but I guess I'll never know exactly. xx

Thankyou for your reply it’s so reassuring but so bad how everyone jumps straight to Sti! A few months ago I had fluid inside my tube I recon maybe that just got infected ?

Hi - I can totally empathise, I felt that people thought it was from an STI and so somehow my fault in a way. Grrr! But it was more the doctors not really looking into why it had happened that annoyed me. I was very sick, in hospital for more than 2 weeks and it was a slow recovery - but I wasn't diagnosed with endometriosis until 4 years (and a lot of struggle) later (FFS). So I kind of feel like my endo should have been diagnosed at the time I had PID you know, as it probably was involved in what happened with my ovary and tube?! Anyway, if mine was caused by a cyst and my tube got mangled, it seems to me that something like fluid retained in the tube could potentially lead to PID too? We may never get answers, but it just kind of makes sense that the way endo is and the issues that it can cause could lead to PID... so I defo think it should be discussed without assumption it was caused by an STI! x

Hi, sorry to hear what you have both gone through. I also have a very similar story so really interesting to read your posts! I was treated for Tubo ovarian abscesses earlier this year and told I had PID. I have a history of abdo pain/burst ovarian cysts all occurring when I came off the pill - which I had a few months prior to the abscesses. All my swabs came back negative and no previous STI history yet was still heavily questioned and told probably an STI and exactly like you said Csytasista like it was my own fault. I was very unwell in hospital when this was all going on and made a horrible time even worse. I continue to get of pain/my abdo is always tender but very luckily having a lapropscopy in the next few weeks. X

Since December I have been admitted 6 times. For the same right sided abdo pajn… the always want to rule out appendix as I’ve still got them… the last time (two weeks ago) they said if your ultrasound is clear we will remove appendix but scan shown the fluid in the tube. Which was there back in June when I was admitted .. I think they didn’t treat it at that time so left it and now became infected.. or something keeps causing fluid build up in there … two weeks ago I was promised while I was admitted by two doctor that I would have surgery then the last day I seen a different doctor on shift and he said no surgery your going home. I really don’t think gynae issues are treated properly! They also told me that these issues I continuously keep having are maybe from the sepsis I got 3 weeks after delivery.. they think the sepsis wasn’t treated properly so causing me ongoing issues

Oh I’m so sorry to hear you have been in and out of hospital so often that must be so hard - especially with a little one! That is so interesting - they have also said to me about appendix each time I have been into hospital as I also have mine. Are your crp levels raised each time you go in? I’m very lucky and my GP has been great so have had many blood tests when pain flaring up thankfully they have remained low. I also got told I had fluid in my tubes on my last scan - we are haven’t had children yet but think from what I have read I think it is likely we will be able to conceive naturally. Completly agree - doesn’t feel like gets taken seriously - everything seems to take so long and never a clear answer. Are you under a gynae team? Can you ask them to add you to an outpatient lap list? X

So previously my bloods always come back normal but the last time they were high yes. But different doctors say different things regarding bloods… some told me fine some said abnormal so really don’t make sence lol! And I think I might already be on the waiting list going to call gp Tuesday and see what’s actually going on lol

What kind of treatment did you get? Did they treat you in the hospital, or you get antibiotic after discharge? Which antibiotic did you get? I really want to know, thank you!
