Mirena and pain!

Ended up in A and E this morning with severe stabbing pain in my uterus/ ovaries and colon.

I was diaognoised with endometriosis back in february this year via a laparoscopy. I had my left ovary removed and my uterus unstuck from my colon. The surgeon said he had to leave some tissue near my colon as it was too risky to move.

I had the mirena fitted at the same. Although my periods have got a lot lighter the pain is no better.

This morningi t came on whilst emptying my bowels. I thought I was going to pass out. I couldnt move without horrific stabbing in my bits. My husband was so worried he took me to A and E.

The doctor said it was likely to be caused by the Mirena. But could also be the endo. He saidi could go to the doctors and requesta scan, but that it was common.

I had painful bowels movements anyway cause of the endo.

Has anyone else experienced this with the coil?

Does anyone know if the coil is good for suppressingp ain caused from endo in the pouch of douglas?

At my wits end.. ..

Had the coil to hopefully make this better. But so far no good

Hey, sorry to hear your any your wits end. I'm like you they couldn't get rid of all the endo as it was risky to my bowels so its still there around the pouch of Douglas. I tried the coil, I wasn't too happy about having it but was told it was the best to help pain and reduce the growth of the endo that was left in me. After a week of intense pain I rang the doc telling them that I was in a lot of pain and felt like someone was stabbing me in mu bits too and I was having trouble walking due to the pain. I was told that it would settle. I managed 3 weeks with jt on and at least one call to the doc each week until they made an emergency appointment for me to have a scan to double chrck that the coil was in the right place. So I had my scan and it was in the right place but I told them I was in more pain with it than without it. Again I was told that I should persevie with it but I refused and said I wanted it out. They weren't too happy about by decision but they took it out. You know your body best, go for the scan and see if the coil is om the right place but dony be afraid to tell them to take it out if you want it out.

How long did they take to remove it once you told them you wanted it out?

About an hour, I was already in the hospital for the scan so just had to wait for someone who could remove it to be available and to have the chat again to make sure that I really dod wamt it out

So what treatment do you have now?Does the tissue left cause pain?

I'm hoping I can have surgery to have it removed, and maybe a hysterectomy. It the only way I can see out of this pain

When the coil was out I went on the mini pill but that wasn't helping so they put an implant in as well. But thatade me feel like I was drunk. When I spoke to the doc they didn't know why I was on both so told me to come off the mini pill. I still have pain and tend to use sofadol and a hot water bottle, there is still always niggles there tho. I was involved in a webinar that was hosted by gyne surgeons and gyne nurses. I considered having a hysterectomy but after they said on the webinar that a hysterectomy won't help endo as the endo is outside the womb so removing it won't do anything.

HI,

Sorry to hear what your going through.

I had my Mirena Coil fitted over a year ago, my periods are a lot lighter but all my pain and other symptoms are still there. I don't plan on getting rid of my coil cause its the only thing that makes my periods light.

When I mentioned this to the doctor they prescribed me pain medication as they said if the coil doesn't help with the pain no other hormone treatments will.

Hope everything goes okay for you and you get the help you need

It's so upsetting to have to choose pain or lighter periods. Also whilst we are still bleeding the tissue stills grows.

It seems all we can do is learn to live with it

I agree it is upsetting, why can’t a solution to the bleeding and the pain be found 😭 all we can do is what we think is best for us and hope for that’s enough
