first gynae appointment

I had my first appointment this morning after 8 month wait and many cancellations.

I felt it went well they listened to everything I had to say etc. He believes it is endometriosis.

I'm just confused as the ending was rushed and was just told they are booking me in for keyhole surgery to insert mirena coil. I have so many questions now I've thought about it. Is the surgery for diagnosis? as most times mirena is put in by gp, will they extract any of the tissue if found? as he believes that it may be wrapped around a nerve causing numbness and pain in my left leg. Has anyone else experienced this?

The first procedure is a scan - wasn't that mentioned? You can't be told to have the mirena - that is a medical option but one that is only considered if a scan is negative and even then the option is medical treatment without a diagnosis or a diagnostic lap and it is your choice to make. They used to push the mirena as doctors used to get paid to prescribe them but that's stopped now. It doesn't sound as though the consultant knew much about the endo pathway.

Ive been treated for possible endo since 2020 but by my gp not gynae. I have had 4 scans all showed nothing, I was then given desogestrel (pill) which didn't help with symptoms and so the consultant said that now they will be doing keyhole surgery and putting in the mirena coil.

I wish I had of asked more questions but at the time my mind went blank and so am waiting on the appointment to come through and not sure who to ask about what to expect.
