Is giving birth more painful with endo?

I have stage 4 endo and adenomyosis. After a lot of IVF we are expecting our first baby. Does anyone know if adenomyosis/ endo makes labour more painful than average?

Adenomyosis no.

Just make sure an eye is kept on your placenta's health and if they say they want to induce you before 40 weeks agree to it. Adenomyosis is linked to placenta problems.

Thanks for tip, what kind of placenta problems? And how early could they appear? Thanks!

No, it shouldn't. Both endo and IVF may increase the likelihood of certain problems slightly (e.g. placenta problems), but there is no evidence suggesting your antenatal care or labour experience should be any different from anyone without those factors.

I had an epidural and it was great, for what that's worth. No pain once it took effect.

Hello lovely,First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy :-)

I have severe DIE and adenomyosis and I struggled with infertility and recurrent miscarriages for years, including a late loss. I have recently given birth to my IVF rainbow baby and I had a great experience. I had done a hypnobirthing course which really helped with pain relief and in fact I gave birth without epidural or any form of pain relief. The hospital staff were really surprised I didn't complain at all, but my endo is so bad that I felt labour was easier and less painful than one of my terrible endo flare-ups. I would definitely recommend hypnobirthing though!

Good luck :-) x

My birth was as painful as my period 😂 I have severe endo. No problems in pregnancy or labour at all. It was 3 hours. The only issues were placenta at front - I felt less movement, and I didn't recognise contractions because I was so used to being in pain!

Congratulations Mintypop! 🥳 That's wonderful news.

I cannot comment myself, but a friend of mine who also suffers with endo, said dealing with endo pain almost prepared her for labour, and in actual fact, she found childbirth easier!

Wishing you all the best x
