Had total hysterectomy and bowel resection 5 week's ago. Still no appetite and so tired, feel stronger in myself physically but feel lifeless. Got pinky/brown discharge too. Should I still be feeling like this, is it normal? Coping with temporary stoma too. Fed up!!

Hi Outlander27

We're sorry to hear you're still feeling tired and a bit lifeless after your surgery - I'm sure many in our community will identify with how you are feeling. Everyone's recovery times are different and it can take a while to process everything you've gone through - not only the surgery itself, but also the journey leading up to surgery and the healing process afterwards. If you haven't already seen it, we do have a publication on our website about having a hysterectomy and what to expect afterwards. This can be downloaded from endometriosis-uk.org/public.... It says that post-surgery discharge is normal for 2-3 weeks afterwards, but this can also vary from person to person. Hopefully it will settle down soon but if you're at all concerned about any post-surgery symptom then please either make an appointment with your GP or, if you're able to, ring your surgeon's receptionist to request a call back.

You also mention that you've lost your appetite, but do try to eat regular, nourishing meals to support your body as it recovers from the surgery. Be kind to yourself as you recover and to do something each day to support your mental health - I find Dr Rangan Chatterjee's books (and podcasts) are really great for suggesting little daily practices that can make a huge difference to overall wellbeing, but others on the forum may have their own suggestions to support you post-surgery.

Wishing you all the best - take care xx

I really get being fed up….part of having Endo.

You can do all the practical things to help yourself with feeling better. As Endo UK suggested. You’ve been through such a lot with major surgery remember.

Look after your mind too. I like adult colouring and podcasts. Breath work and meditation helps me too.

What kinds of things help you?

To keep it real, when I’m low it all goes out of the window and that’s okay, part of the healing process!! x x x x
