Laparoscopy confusion

hi ! I’m new here and just looking for advice really.

I’ve had painful periods since as long as I can remember, my sister has endo and my doctor suggested I probably have it too.

Went to gynaecologist and he agreed, put me on the pill, had scans and stuff but nothing came of it.

My pain is unbearable, I’m 25 now and I’ve got the IUD but the pain still ruins me every day and I claim disability as I can’t work. I’d been on the waiting list for a laparoscopy since august and I finally had one on Monday.

I was the last one on the list so I waited around in hospital for hours, I’m moody and anxious then I finally go down.

When I wake up, in the recovery room, one of the doctors (not my main surgeon) tells me there was no endo, but there was adenomyosis and IBS. So I’m like oh right umm I wonder what’s causing the pain then, but I’m so groggy I don’t ask any questions.

I go back onto the ward and after a while my surgeon comes to talk to me. He tells me I do have evidence of mild endo, adenomyosis, scar tissue and IBS. So I’m like wait what ? He then goes on to tell me there’s nothing he can do for my pain and I should “try to get pregnant as this will stop the pain” !!!

THEN I get discharged and I look at my discharge not and it says “no endo” and I’m like hold on what’s going on.

So I’m confused, I’m thinking of getting a second opinion. I just feel completely blind sighted and let down by my doctors.

I’ve also been in a lot of pain from the surgery, took my bandages off today and belly button looks weird and I’ve got loads of bruising on my stomach too!!

I think this is more of a rant than anything, I just don’t have anyone who really understands :(

Very stressful for you!Assume this was with the NHS? Then get in touch with PALS - a couple of GPs have advised me that this will help with getting answers.

Call the hospital you had the surgery with and ask for a referral - say you were groggy after general so want to speak again and that the note you were given is confusing.

If the consultant isn’t an endo specialist then yes get a second opinion, speak to your GP and get them to refer you again to an endo specialist.

If one person said there was endo then surely there’s endo!

Good luck - it’s annoying but you gotta fight. We all feel your pain.

Yes it was the NHS! I will look into PALS, I always thought that was a complaint service?

I don’t think my surgeon was a endo specialist. Can I ask my GP to refer me to an endo specialist?

Thank you for the advice !!!

Yeah PALs is the complaints bit, if you’re not getting answers then complain 😀. I spoke to a GP yesterday about how I don’t get w follow up appt after surgery and he said if i I ask I’ll get one and to speak to PALS to really get things moving.
