Hi, I’ve been suffering with endometriosis symptoms for over a year and have not got no luck with any medication. I was referred to a nhs gynaecologist back in September time when he told me “it has nothing to do with the gynaecologist end of things it must be something else”. He didn’t even let me barely explain all my symptoms and didn’t even examine my stomach, he done nothing but make me feel like my pains and problems didn’t exist. I’m now waiting on another gynaecologist appointment which is coming up soon and I want to have a better experience with this one and maybe get a step closer to getting diagnosed and getting help.
I would appreciate any tips and advice anyone has for my first gynaecologist consultation so it doesn’t go like the last one!!
Thanks x

I would make sure that the person you have been referred to is an expert in endo and not just another gynae ‘. Otherwise they will be wasting your time again. It is worth the wait to see a true endo expert. All Gynaes know something but a good one will know to refer you to an expert. Be really clear about your symptoms and don’t take no for an answer. After 20 years of misdiagnosis in the past I know how good the NHS are at fobbing you off if you don’t dig your heels in. At least there are more endo specialists than there were 11 years agoAll the very best to you
I’d recommend writing all your symptoms down and bringing that with you to make sure you get to say all you need to say. Don’t be afraid to tell them the impact it’s having on your life and you can even say that you think it sounds like endo and would like to explore that possibility. It wasn’t until I told my doctor that I thought I had endo that I even got a gynae referral. I think sometimes we can just sit and accept what the dr tells us, but you know your body and you have every right to ask for them to explore endometriosis as a potential explanation for your symptoms. I was told by one gynae that it definitely wasn’t endometriosis, just to be told 2 weeks later that it was!
It can be difficult but fight for what you need. I hope the appointment goes well! ❤️
