Hi, due to the continuous waiting on NHS I have now sorted my laparoscopy privately and it is on 26th July. Does any one have any tips on how I can prepare for it mentally and physically? Thank you,
Laparoscopy booked : Hi, due to the... - Endometriosis UK
Laparoscopy booked
Hi,I have been in a very similar situation.
I was told I would have to wait 2 years for a Laparoscopy on the NHS so decided to have the procedure privately (1st Laparoscopy).
I am now just over 2 weeks post op and recovering well.
I did a lot of research into different gynecologists and read a lot of reviews which helped me choose who I felt was right for me. The date for my op was confirmed around 3 weeks before. I tried to think of it like any other appointment in the run up to my op. The day before my husband took me to the Zoo which was great because there was plenty to see and do. I wasn't thinking about my operation!
I was still having doubts whether I was doing the right thing even when I was in my gown and waiting to be called down to theatre (ultrasounds and bloods prior to reaching this stage had ruled out fibroids, pcos, etc).
I have confirmed endometriosis and I feel incredibly lucky that we acted when we did. Had we waited 2 years, the outcome could have been very different.
You know your body and what's normal or what appears not normal. Have faith in your consultants years of training and ability.
I found it helped to talk through the aims of the surgery with my consultant beforehand, even though he or she likely has it all wrote down somewhere (making this clear settled my nerves!)
Ultimately, all the prior appointments, bloods, ultrasounds etc is a lot to go through but if having this operation gives you answers then it is in my opinion worth every penny. I am hoping an official diagnosis will make managing Endometriosis a bit easier and I won't need to push for things as much going forward? We'll see!
My experience of having a Laparoscopy privately was fantastic and I may start putting some money aside into a 'Laparscopy fund' for any possible future surgeries.
If you have any further questions in the lead up to your Laparoscopy send me a message and I'll be happy to help settle any nerves
Best wishes
😊
Hi Kay92jay
It's great to hear that you have a date for your laparoscopy. We know any surgery can be a daunting prospect so we have a great information sheet on our website that runs through what happens to you during a laparoscopy and some things you may experience after surgery. This can be downloaded at endometriosis-uk.org/your-l...
The main thing to remember is that you are entitled to ask questions of the doctors who perform the surgery to ensure you are comfortable and try to remember that everyone's experiences and recovery times are different. The best gift you can give yourself is to rest up afterwards and take the time to heal properly.
Wishing you all the best x
I recently had surgery and I would say definitely take a book in so you can keep yourself occupied or a magazine and maybe some drinks and snacks for after
You'll be ok lovely. Xxx
Hello! Would you mind me asking a money question? How much did it cost all in to get your laparoscopy done privately? Did you have to pay for other appointments too? I’m currently waiting on the NHS but the wait is so long and I’m really struggling… xx
