Laparoscopy today… full hysterectomy needed!

So after my laparoscopy today it’s confirmed my best treatment will be a full hysterectomy! I’m only 38 but know it’s what’s needed and what I want but still over whelmed! Any idea when I’ll get the surgery is the next question tho!

In bloody agony with the trapped air and tummy is very sore but glad it’s done still very overwhelming though

Hi, hope you’re on the mend from your lap soon!Did they say why they are planning a hysterectomy as it’s not a cure for endometriosis, it would only be relived by excision as the issues are outside the womb . Do you have adenomyosis too, as that is a reason to have the surgery and will be helpful if so? If you’re only 38 I would be doing more research into excision surgery without hysterectomy Nancy’s nook is a wealth of info nancysnookendo.com/

Good luck x

Excision surgery has a 50% recurrence rate over 5 years! Excision with hysterectomy only 8%! No it isn’t a guaranteed cure, but actually if you look into statistics, it’s better than repeated surgeries, which do nothing than continually increase your risk of infections, organ damage, more scar tissue!.. ect, ect…… I wouldn’t want repeated surgeries for no amount of money!

Just offering a source of info to the original poster as hysterectomy is a big step at that age. Excision by a endo specialist could at worst significantly delay any need for that and at best remove the need. Loads of info on that website for her to do some research anyway just so she can feel fully informed when making a big choice.Personally I’m endlessly awaiting my hysterectomy and excision. I have endo and adenomyosis but I’m 50 so can’t wait to have it all removed!

How do you know the stage of her disease or what type of Endometriosis is? I had excision surgery by a ‘top’ specialist, at a tertiary care hospital! Forgot to mention he didn’t actually take it all because it was in the worst areas possible! He then treated me for 5 years with hormones that was ineffective for my type of aggressive Endo! It resulted in me almost dying, and ending up on a cancer pathway! And still none the wiser as to if my ovary is cancer or not! On scans it’s suspicious, but on bloods it ain’t! Anyway, now I need even more extensive surgery than I would’ve done if they’d have just done a proper job 5 years ago and whipped everything out including ovaries 5 years ago!

Getting a hysterectomy on NHS was ridiculous, so I don’t think they suggest them for fun of it!

Yes, she may have to think about it, but to say “aah you just need excision, what’s the worst that can happen if it doesn’t work!”.. I’ll tell you what, a lot! Xx

And to be fair I do understand your reasoning! For some people endometriosis is just a pain in the arse! Cripples you at time of the month! Then there’s a subset of people who have disease more on par with cancer than that of endometriosis! I have a life long sick note, because I’m NOT expected to get better! It doesn’t just cause pain, it is destroying my general health! My bowel is likely beyond repair and it doesn’t look good for my kidneys either!

Some people NEED a hysterectomy! And even then, people like me with severe aggressive disease understand it more than likely WONT be a cure! Xx

You misunderstood and misinterpreted everything I said. And for the record I have daily pain not just a pain in the arse period once a month. However, I don’t want to hijack this lady’s post to talk about myself. Was just offering a source of info. Hope you get the help you clearly need. I’ll leave it there!

Hi there! It's a bit overwhelming to be told you need to a hysterectomy so hope you're coming to terms with things as best you can. I'm 24 and am 10 days post op from a total hysterectomy having been told it was my best option a few months ago. Mine was also because of adenomyosis. Can totally relate to the pain of trapped wind but trust me movement and peppermint tea are your best friends right now!
