Has anyone had/heard of a laparoscopy that found nothing?

Briefly.

Had an ultrasound today to rule out cysts, fibroids or any structural abnormalities that may be causing my ongoing pelvic pain. She obviously couldn't rule out endometriosis from a scan and she said that while my reproductive organs looked normal, my bowel looked strange on the scan and was moving around a lot. The scan also caused a dull ache for me.

For years I lived with IBS following an eating disorder but the pelvic pain feels different to the IBS pain because the pain comes around the time of my period, is worse with sexual activity and is far lower down. So I know it's not IBS but I'm starting to have imposter syndrome.

I just feel that I'm not worthy of surgery because my pain isn't even all the time, I hear of women who can't do anything because they are in agony and I can't relate to that. I know my pain isn't normal but I don't know how bad it has to be to be worthy of surgery. And I worry that the laparoscopy would find nothing and then I would feel like it was all a waste, and that there is no obvious cause for my pain.

Endo is different for everyone. Some people have severe endo with very little pain and some people have mild endo with excruciating pain. If you’re in any pain at all, you deserve to have it sorted.

About 4 years ago, I ended up in A & E with serious pain and ended up having a laparoscopy. They found nothing. Few months later, I ended up in A & E again, had another laparoscopy and was told I had the most severe case of endo the surgeon had ever seen. It turned out my endo had grown so much, spread so far, that it presented a smooth surface and looked normal to the untrained eye. Let’s face it, we all know they don’t always get it right first time round. Keep pushing. Endo or not, something is clearly wrong.

Hi. I feel exactly like you and my pain sounds similar. I also get heavy periods with lots of clots and am experiencing difficulties conceiving. I went private to see a specialist and have decided to go ahead with a laparoscopy. He said to me - does this impact your life? If it does then it’s best to know for sure what’s going on.

For me I don’t have constant pain but I do get pain at certain times of the month although I do manage it without painkillers most of the time. It’s the fact that I can’t leave the house the first 2 days of my period because I’m so uncomfortable and have to run to the toilet. I’ve decided I can’t just live like this so I’m trying to understand what’s going on in my body and hope the laparoscopy will give me some answers. I go in tomorrow!

Good luck with your laparoscopy tomorrow! I'm really glad you have been able to get help. You are right, it's best to know what's going on. I just feel so unworthy sometimes!
