Hello, anyone else around my age (51) experienced 13 months totally period free, zilch, nada, nothing, tampons thrown out, rejoicing etc. I know this makes me officially menopausal, but then I started bleeding? It’s only a little, but I also have slight period pain. I’m going to get this checked out asap but with a history of fibroids, endo and god knows what else, I obviously thought this was all in the past. I’ve had no pain for over a year, (life changing) and know bleeding after menopause can indicate some gynae cancers….😳 I’m sure it’s not serious but just wondering if any older ladies out there had bleeding like mine is now presenting. I’m not on any HRT at all or other meds. Thanks. Nina. (Bit worried, but not overly, or should that be ovary!) 😉

Hi Brambledoggy,
I've just signed up so I can reply to you.
Please get booked in for a smear asap, tell your Dr you have bleeding after menopause.
You need an emergency appointment.
Bleeding, even just once, even only a little after you have been through the menopause is serious and needs urgent investigation.
Really hope everything turns out OK for you.
Appreciate that. Just had a recent smear, all clear, GP didn’t seem to think emergency as calling me back Monday with a view to a referral. Bleeding is like a normal period now, which has mightily ruffled me after so long. Will get tests etc (again) to find out if anything more serious. If anyone else reading this has had similar experiences, be good to hear. Thanks. Nina.
Hiya,
A women I work with had early menopause from aged 38 and is on HRT. She told me she had 8 years of no periods and suddenly out the blue a period. She talked to a nurse that said its completely normal because the lining can still slowly build up over time and can just break away randomly. She was told to log things like amount of bleeding, clots, duration and call again in 3 months if it keeps happening.
hope that puts your mind at rest x
Not looking to scare you but Bleeding after menopause can be one of the signs of cancer (ovarian, uterine)
PAP smears will NOT detect those
Hence the term for those silent killer
Please keep an on eye on yourself and report any other odd symptoms if they occur to your DR like example…bloating etc
You are probably fine but all women who bleed after menopause should be aware of this and take note of all of their symptoms and report them
Best to you
Margaret
Ahh the chaos that is menopause, endo and adenomyosis. So yes as all others super important to check it’s nothing suspicious-pap, ca125 blah blah but yes plenty of menopausal women without the endo issue have bleeds randomly after throwing all the kit out. With endo and it’s kin it’s even more the case as we don’t have the same capacity to process the hormonal dance. Menopause isn’t just a switch off and women still “cycle”’their hormones even when we no longer bleed. Some of us it’s more in your face ( mood swings, pain sometimes spotting) and it can take time to wind it’s way out or for many doesn’t wholly go. I’d make sure I was using the self care hacks you’ve discovered work for you & give yourself the love x
