How long have NHS people waited for first Lap?
I was put on the list Oct 2020 and had mine August 2021. But it can vary so much from hospital to hospital. If you are on the list already then it is worth getting in touch with the waiting list office as they might be able to give you some idea. Also let them know if you're willing to take short notice cancellations - this is what I did and I got a short notice date, not sure how long I'd have waited otherwise.
Was this the department itself you called or a different service to access the waiting list?
Hi, I was diagnosed with stage 3 Endo in March 2021, had my first consultation in June 2021 where I expressed an interest in Mirena as I hadn't taken any hormonal treatment prior to this. I decided to go on the waiting list for a lap in June but was told I'd have to wait until my next consultation which was in Oct 2021. (I hadn't even had the Mirena by that point, that's how bad the backlog was!) I was put on a waiting list in October 2021 & am still waiting. I was told I'd have to wait a year due to Covid backlogs. I have phoned through to the hospital though & they have me down for an appointment in May but can't say for sure. Hope this helps.
I was referred on March 2020 , called in August to check if I was going on waiting list ( had to have the check appointment to be approved, that was 15 months time waiting, called into gynaecologist secretary and asked for an online appointment instead of seeing me , had the phone call in September 2020, approved for surgery, waited till February 2021 and then called into my gp for an expedite( kind of short notice, if any cancellations occur ) , end of august got a call from hospital if I am taking an appointment on September2021 ( was in 2 weeks time ) said yes , had to self isolate starting with that day , ( crazy times , had to call into work and say that I can not go in work into next day due surgery ) .
I agree that it can vary a lot. I feel I was relatively lucky with being put on the wait list in June 2021 and my lap is now scheduled for in a month.
Mine was three months but this was before the pandemic happened.
Presented to my GP with a recurrence of endo pain in April 2019 since then I have had two pre-op assessments(valid for 6months) and no treatment, I have been called for a 3rd pre-op today. So for me it is over 2 and a half years. Meanwhile the pain and fatigue increase and what I can do diminishes. After a week at work I am exhausted and have to spend most weekends recuperating. I feel I have no life, had to give up a well paid job and go part-time and still I just work and sleep or rest. I am investigating going private and had an MRI done in November. I have Frozen Pelvis and am waiting to see if I can get some treatment. It makes me so sad to read about how we are all struggling in pain with little hope of treatment, long delays and such poor quality of life while we have to force ourselves to work. I hope things get better for all of us soon.
I was referred for my 1st diagnosic lap Oct. 2021 had my lap Jan. 2022, so I was very lucky, just 3 months wait. However, I had agreed that if endo was found I didn't want any ablation, I wanted to be referred for excision at proper endo center. So perhaps my surgeon saw this as a quick surgery and squeezed me in.
