Period pains but no pains at other times

Hi everyone

I get agonising period pains and always have done, but they have got worse in recent years. I usually have period pains for the first 3 days and they vary from mild cramps to an excruciating pain that cannot be controlled with painkillers. The excruciating pain feels like a heaviness and fullness in my lower abdomen and makes me feel like I need to pee to release it, but then when I go it really hurts and barely anything comes out. On top of the pain I get extreme nausea and have been sick on the tube a couple of times and also extreme fatigue where I almost feel like I’m in a daze sleeping with my eyes open! I generally don’t get any of these pains outside of my period - but I do sometimes get really sharp pains inside. Is it possible to have endo when the pains seem to only be at their worse on period?

Many thanks in advance

Yes very possible! I had grade 4 endo diagnosed this year and only had pain on my periods (sometimes on ovulation too but that was a more recent symptom).

Hi thanks for responding. Do you mind me asking what your symptoms where like? It’s so frustrating that the only way to be formally diagnosed is by lap!

I am a bit of a strange one. I had v painful periods as a teenager but went on pill at 19 which masked any symptoms for many years. After coming off the pill I got painful periods again but to be honest didn't think there was anything to worry about as it was manageable with otc painkillers etc. It was only after starting ivf that my symptoms became stronger. I got more pain, including pain with bladder and bowel movements, and pain on ovulation. The biggest symptom though was umbilical bleeding with my periods which was a very obvious symptom! If it hadn't been for that I might not have had the lap (or convinced my consultant to do it) as I thought the pain was normal!

I think it is possibility.

I have personally had pain during period only for years, and only this year I started to have discomfort in between my periods.

Pain was on first couple of days:

- bowel movement

- cramps

- lower back pain (like someone filled my bottom with a liquid steel)

- ovulation pain (feels like someone is squeezing my internal organs and dragging them out from my body)

- pain in tights (like sour muscle but not caused by any exercise) - usually j have this a day or two ahead of period and it lasts for a couple of days

Yes my periods were heavy and only turned painful when I had a fibroid which also caused other issues. Due to this I need a hysterectomy as mine is mostly in my womb and fallopian tubes.
