This is for anxiety, it can be very addictive. At least it was for me, also very effective, I felt great, until you need more to feel great, and then have to stop.. Now I dont accept anything with "pam" (diazepam, oxazepam..). In the USA is Xanax..
It can be taken by 50 years old women?
Perimenopause and menopause cause a very high level of anxiety because the hormones are so unbalanced through the month. Maybe your mum should ask to be seen by a GP who specialises in gynaecology/menopause at her surgery. I am not an expert but what the doctor has prescribed seems very old fashion. The peri/menopause is NOT a psychiatric disorder! Its a hormonal decline. Maybe it should be treated with a hormonal treatment, preferably extra dermal (applicable directly on the skin), such as the patches, Oestrogen and if she still has a uterus the negative effects of oestrogen should be counteracted with a bit of progesterone, such as Utrogestan. She should read the online info from Dr Louise Newson who is an expert. Maybe for yourself, you could ask here to young endo sufferers what they are prescribed for anxiety, ask for a GP specialist in gynaecology and, if you feel that they are not dismissing you, that they are informed and open enough, what would be the best treatment for your endometriosis: maybe a referral to a specialist consultant in endometriosis to a hospital (secondary care). Endo is a real illness and we are often dismissed saying 'its all in your head', which it is not. You could quote the CKS Nice Guidelines available online to both GPs and patients. GPs are not qualified to deal with endometriosis, nor are gynae consultants who claim to have 'an interest in endometriosis': they cause a lot of pain, a lot of suffering and they do not recognise any of it, they are not qualified for endo surgery, often they practise ablation which is burning the top of the endometriosis inside and leaving everything else, so it regrows even fiercer and angrier causing a lot of burning pains that last for months. I have experienced it, it's been very tough! My brain could not cope with this amount of varied and a bit everywhere pain as I had widespread endo that has since been operated on by an endo specialist who did excision, i.e, removing the endo at the base so that it does not regrow.
Do not hesitate to ask, the community of endo sufferers will be happy to help and advise. x
For me its like asking if she can have wodka... I think it is better to look for the causes of anxiety (for both of you) and do something about that. For my physical issues i had surgery and I'm very happy about that, for my other issues I had 5 years therapy and I'm even happier about that. Be careful with doctors going for the easy "fix".
