I'm due to go in hospital on Monday for a total laparoscopic hysterectomy. finally after waiting for over 18 months the nerves are kicking in big style now😰 are there any things I should expect and how long does recovery take (my job entails heavy lifting and beening on my feet all day ) any advice would be a big help I don't know if my age will be a factor 😕I was 50 last birthday 😀

Hi, I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy a few years ago, I was 46, so about your age, recovery is different for everyone, they will advise you on what to do or not to do whilst recovering, it can take up to 6 weeks to feel more yourself, I rested and didn’t lift heavy items for at least the first 2 weeks, then did short, slow walks (up hill in my case! 🤪 where I live) after 2 weeks, then build them up, took about 4 weeks to finally do a good dog walk for me. You will know as you recover how much you can do, to be honest, I found the night prep before my op, worse than the the actual op 😄

Good luck, take care, and let me know how you get on. Big hug 🤗

Hi, I had a total hysterectomy w ovaries removed laparoscopically about 3 months ago, and I'm feeling pretty good these days. I am turning 50 this year so since the endo/endometrioma grew back so quickly after my first lap, I decided to just have everything taken out to hopefully spare myself from additional surgery down the line. I was scared to death right before surgery of all the after effects of menopause that could come, how I wouldn't be myself after having everything removed, recovery time, etc etc. The more I read, the more scared I got! But things seemed to work out fine for me. I went home the same day after surgery and followed their instructions on diet, limited activity, getting up to walk, etc. The first few days/week were difficult but by week 2, I was driving and getting around better. Still no heavy lifting or strenuous activity until I was cleared at my 6 week check up. But I felt pretty good and started some light stretches, exercises after 3 weeks. At least I'm no longer in pain from endo. I started having menopausal symptoms about a month after surgery- hot flashes, night sweats. But nothing Too terrible. (no hrt for me due to breast cancer)

I would say, be sure to follow the dr instructions, get lots of rest the first week and back to "normal" activity slowly. Better to wait than do too much and hinder your recovery. You can deal with the rest as it comes. Best of luck with your surgery and recovery! xx

Thanks for your reply it means a lot... I've decided I'm not going to rush anything and look after myself for once I've been on zoladex injections since Oct 2019 so I'm used to the hot flushes they've not been too bad I'm hoping they will stay the same there manageable ... I've decided he can take my ovaries as well I'm looking forwards to no more pain it's been really good to get some advice from everyone.... take care and thanks again 😊

I go too see consultant in 5 weeks time I don't know if he found anything I was pretty out of it to be honest when he came to see me after op .He took everything and at the moment I'm only having the odd hot sweat ... I was on zoladex before op so I'm used to them . I'm waiting till Monday to drive but I'm off work till new year xhow are you doing x
