Does hysterectomy and removal of endometriosis elsewhere ever bring relief from symptoms?

Is it possible to get relief from symptoms with a hysterectomy combined with removal of endometriosis from elsewhere with a surgeon who has a lot of experience in this area? It’s an option I have but I’m not managing to find any posts about positive outcomes. I’m not sure if that’s because it doesn’t work or because people who have improved don’t come back and post about it

I've continued to suffer. I've had extensive radical excision of my endometriosis in several lengthy operations. I've also had hysterectomy and oopherectomy. This was 17 years ago. Pain and all sorts of symptoms have continued and I've been on Zoladex for years. The first year or two I was a bit better but never able to return to normal life. However, you could be different. Some people do have great improvement.

My surgery was with a top specialist. xx

I’m so sorry to hear that. It must be very difficult to go through so much surgery and it not bring relief. I wonder what it is that makes the difference in outcome between one person and another. Sending you hugs and best wishes xx

Thank you. I think it is possibly just more aggressive in some people. That's just a theory. I hope if you go ahead you have a good outcome. xx

ps I do wonder if my situation could have been a bit better if I'd gone on to Zoladex for a while immediately after surgery instead of waiting until things had got really bad. I do think it might have helped, who knows. xx

Hi there, I had a hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy almost 6 months ago now - I’m almost afraid to write it down but the past few weeks I’ve felt better than I have in years. Very conscious that it is early days and that it is possible the pain will return - so really trying to make the most of each day. Also aware that the consultant thought it was my womb causing most of my pain (he suspects adenomyosis, though it did not show up in the histology) rather than the endo which I think was mostly in the pouch of Douglas and was inaccessible in previous surgeries.

It was a difficult decision for me, but I felt I had exhausted my other options. I found the info on this board really helpful. Happy to share more of my experience if you have any questions, good luck with your decision😊 x
