Can a Hydrosalphinx be corrected with herbal medicine?

I am due to go into surgery next week and have been told that due to a hydrosalphinx I need to consent for tube removal. I am aware the evidence states that removing the tube improves conception both by IVF or naturally. However, I really do not want this removed. Does anyone have any stories of their journey with this or if anything holistic has worked if I refuse to have a tube removed. Would love to hear your thoughts. TIA

Hi there,

I'm not sure how helpful this is but I understand your predicament about the tube. I was diagnosed with bilateral hydrosalpinx on my 3rd ivf cycle. I was extremely upset ++ when the medics said they would recommend removal. I think hydrosalpinx possibly reduces the success rate of ivf by half.

I have actually just had both removed along with major endometriosis excision. But the decision was made easier for me as my husband had his 3rd sperm dna fragmentation result back. Again terrible, now so severe that even ivf will not work. So the chances of spontaneous conception were essentially nil = easier decision.

I think medics are very objective about this, I e. This is a problem so we remove it...but it's quite emotional when it is your own body. (And I always had hope before of a miracle pregnancy!).

You dont have to have it/ them removed, it's your choice. It depends where you are in your fertility journey. It may not be an problem in the end, but if it is you may go through ivf cycles and lose the embryos after transfer and then have to go through another surgery to remove tubes later.

I hunted through the web looking for solutions too. You hear serrapeptase mentioned a lot. I tried it, but I have no idea if it made any difference in the end.

Good luck for your surgery!

Thank you so much, sorry to hear about your story. It's so difficult when you put the trust in the medics hands and completely agree when its a part of your body. I will definitely have a look at that alternative solution you recommended. Thanks so much

Hi, I’m not sure about herbal however. Both my tubes were blocked, I had surgery to unblock them both successfully. Have they attempted to treat yours? X

Hi Milly124, they did not even advise that. I think I will ask him to try to unblock first but I still don't know whether to give consent to removal so that they actually don't just remove without other intervention. Is there anything you recommend me saying or some literature i could read? many thanks

Honestly hun, all I know is I had a lap March 2020 and was diagnosed with endo and hydrosalphinx in both tubes. I was told I’d need IVF to have children and discharged. I went back to my gp because of the pain from my endo and was referred back, I saw a different consultant (hes a specialist) he told me he would do his best to unblock them for me during another lap which I had on the 29th May 2021.. I am now 6 weeks pregnant. I dont really know where to tel you to read as I couldn’t find much when I was looking into it and I know a few people who’s tubes have been removed and they havnt even attempted to unblock them. All I can do is tell you my experience. I have heard good things about serrepeptase aswell but I didn’t try it. It’s worth speaking to your consultant and if you don’t want it removed, don’t let me pressure you. If you’re not confident in what you’re consultant is saying maybe see if you could speak to another and get a second opinion? I’m so sorry I’m not much help, I’ve been through 8 years of infertility and issues and only in the last 2 years found a consultant who actually listened and helped me. Keep pushing, ask as many questions as you need if they say no and you’re not happy ask for detailed reasoning why, don’t be afraid to get second opinions. It’s your body. I wish you all the best xxx
