More pain after having mirena coil?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site!

I have been diagnosed with "suspected" endometriosis and adenomyosis after years of struggling. They won't do a laparoscopy yet to confirm and wanted to try the mirena coil first. I had it fitted a couple of weeks ago on day 6 of my cycle (which I found horrifically painful) and so this is meant to mean it is effective immediately. I am "due" on my period today and I'm not bleeding but the cramps I am having are even worse than usual. I was expecting the coil to reduce them! I know it can take a while to settle in and have an effect, but my cramps were unbearable before and I now feel like I'm being shot in the stomach every 10-15 minutes. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal for the pain to be even worse for the first "period" you have after insertion? Just hoping for some reassurance if this has happened to anyone else, as taking paracetamol, ibuprofen and codeine isn't even beginning to touch the pains.

Thank you! xx

Had 3 more as in over the years. It settles but given your pain of off the scale....please consider contacting the GP for some prescription pain meds. X

Thank you, reassurance that it does settle is great. I think I am going to as nothing seems to touch it. Thanks!x

I have got the mirena coil (the same reason) for almost a year now and it has made a difference. However, I had a lot cramping and bleeding for the first +/- 3 months every day. I tracked it all on an app (attached) so that I knew whether things were getting better or worse. Once things settled down my periods became shorter and lighter. It’s different for everyone but I still have a period and cramps but more normal and easier than before. I persevered and had many hot water bottles and paracetamol. Good luck! I hope it makes a difference for you.

Thank you that's so helpful! And really reassuring to hear that it settles down. Fingers crossed mine will too :) x
