Rectal clinic/bowl specialist referral after endo diagnosis and laparoscopy

Hey everyone,

I had a laparoscopy at the end of February to remove an ovarian cyst and to remove most of my endometriosis. After that I am now no longer under the care of my gyno so I'm back to my GP. Since then, I've had blood in my stool and have always had a history of bowel problems so I have been referred to a bowl specialist/rectal clinic as well as more in depth blood tests to see if I'm intolerant to anything. Has anyone gone through the same thing before? I'm not sure what to expect when I see the specialist and what they'll do etc. Any advice or experiences would be really grateful x

I have been referred to both a colorectal consultant (who is one of the bowel specialists at my bsge centre) and a Gastroenterologist. I've never been to a rectal clinic.

Do you know if they are a colorectal surgeon or a Gastroenterologist?

Either way they will probably refer you for a colonoscopy to have a look. This will only show what's on the inside of the bowel.

Gastroenterologists can refer for many tests to see if you have other things like IBD, bile acid diarrhoea, etc etc.

Did your gynaecologist have a good look at your bowel during the operation?

Happy to answer any specific questions x
