I had an appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday. I left feeling so frustrated and upset. I don't feel I was listened to at all.
I had surgery for endo last year, but earlier this year, the pain started to return, this time with backache. According to the gynae, 'Endometriosis can't cause backache'. And also 'Some women only have a little, but complain a lot.'
I don't know where to go from here. Maybe talk to my GP again? At least I felt she listened to me.

Hi. That sounds a very frustrating appointment and dismissing your symptoms. Is the person you saw a specialist in endometriosis or a general gynaecologist? From first hand experience endometriosis can cause back pain, it actually turned out to be a full frozen pelvis as well for me although none of this showed up on the various scans. I would definitely go back to your gp and see if another referral is possible. Do you have a pain plan in place? The endo diet might be worth a look to. People can make you feel like you are wasting their time with endometriosis as it’s such a hidden problem, but you know the pain you are feeling and you deserve to be treated and helped to live as pain free as possible with this terrible disease. Xx
Theperson I saw was a general gynaecologist. He oversaw my laproscopy and ablation last year, but he seems to have deicded that that is the limit of what he wants to do for me.
I spoke to my GP on the phone this morning, and she (its great having a female GP) said she'd read the letter the gynae is going to send, then potentially refer me to someone else.
I'll guess we see what happens next, but that appointment with the gynae was so upsetting. I almost cried when I was describing it to my GP this morning.
Absolutely appalling and shows a woeful ignorance of the symptoms of endometriosis on the part of the gynaecologist, not to mention dismissing your pain like that. You should make a complaint, that isn't on.
I hope your GP can refer you to a specialist in endometriosis.
It is a very serious illness with all sorts of complications. Your experience really is disgraceful. Good luck xx
I’ve had more run ins with gynaecologists than I’ve had hot dinners. She should know better than to mess with someone going through debilitating chronic pain. Back pain is very common. Keep fighting, get a second opinion or a third, trust your gut instincts and give them hell.
Completely agree with everyone else, please make a complaint and get a second opinion. Preferably one from a doctor who knows his arse from his elbow 😉 sending love xx
