Managing bowel symptoms

I have a large (9cm) cystic mass (possibly an endometrioma, possibly a cystic adenomyoma) attached to my uterine fundus. My uterus is retroverted and the mass is causing pressure on my bowel. I’m currently on month 4 of Zoladex and waiting to hear back from the MDT at a BSGE centre. I’m hoping someone here might be able to give some advice about managing the bowel symptoms in the meantime.

The most uncomfortable symptom is that I constantly feel like I have to poo. It also hurts when I do, and it is quite an effort. I am taking lactulose every day so my stools are soft, but it doesn’t seem to be helping much. I also have back pain, but that is more manageable with pain killers.

Anyone got any advice?

My GP gave me Alverine, it helps with bowel and womb spasms. BM's can still be painful but it's definitely helped, I'd already tried buscopan and colpermin and they didn't do a thing. How are you finding Zoladex?

I'm meant to be having my 5th prostap next Monday, but it's really not helping so can't see the point. Currently waiting for full hysterectomy and removal of endo on bowels.

Recently bought myself a coccyx support cushion which helps ease back pain.

Thank you! I’m finding the Zoladex to be pretty good. I’m no longer losing so much blood and the HRT is making the side effects better. It doesn’t seem to be helping the bowel symptoms at all though unfortunately. I’m lucky in that pain (aside from when pooing) hasn’t been too much of an issue. I haven’t tried buscopan but I don’t really understand why it would help if my issue is obstruction of the bowel? Likewise Alverine. Spasms aren’t a problem and to my knowledge I don’t have lesions on my bowel, just a massive obstruction.

Will try a support cushion - that sounds like a great idea. I hope you don’t have to wait too long for your surgery.

Hi. I have bowel endo and it can be so painful. Have you tried the endo diet? I was very sceptical about it but my husband took charge as I was so poorly and I did it strictly for 8 weeks and along with better pain control we got on top of it ( mostly) why I waited for surgery. Once I had the op I introduced one thing at a time, it was time consuming but let me work out what I can eat and what I can’t. Might be worth a look. Xx
