Just got back from my 2nd transvaginal ultrasound and they said they couldn’t see anything that could relate to endo. In my first they saw cysts and tissue on the outside of my uterus and on the wall linings.
I have an appointment with gynaecology at my local hospital but really worried my doctor will cancel it because of the new scan.
Has anyone else had 2 scans that show completely different things?

Hi, yes this happened to me! I had one done on the NHS they found nothing and then I ended up going private because they just didn’t know what they were looking for or doing tbh. I went private and she found so much endo you need to find someone that knows what to look for x
Thank you, I’ve got a gynae appointment with a doctor who has some special interest in endo in feb. just hoping my doctor doesn’t cancel it after seeing the results from my recent scan
Hi hope your okay, I’ve just been discharge from hospital admitted with right lower abdo pain (gynae related) had 2 scans over 2 days that shown completely different things! Number 1 was lots of cysts on my ovary and 2. Enlarged ovary with one cyst and fluid in cervix so don’t worry I have had this happen! Just keep pushing!
Yes!!! I even had a pelvic specific mri and nothing was seen. I’ve had at least 25 ultrasounds, mri, ct scans, internal scans and none picked up any Endo. I had stage 4 recto vaginal endo.
Don’t take much notice of scans, I have significant stage 4 endometriosis which as obliterated everywhere including bowel & all ligaments & adenomyosis. I’ve had countless ultrasounds and never had one show anything apart from the occasional “cyst” I’ve had 4 pelvic surgeries and lost both tubes and left ovary (had cyst 3 times size of womb on it). I don’t know why they waste money on them when it is known they don’t show endometriosis!
I think an endo specialist would know this and may have been doing one to rule out anything else so hopefully your appointment won’t be cancelled.
I've had a couple of these and both times they've that they've not seen anything to say that I have endometriosis. I ended up having a CT scan and MRI scan to confirm that I actually do have endometriosis. You'd think that the cysts on both ovaries and the fact that my left ovary is tucked behind my womb would be a slight indication that I have it.Better screening and diagnosis is required for endometriosis and unfortunately we don't have it at the moment, the more I read people's stories on this forum the more it's clear that it so hit and miss.
Good luck hope you get the diagnosis your looking for
Really don't pay any attention to the transvaginal results. It's extremely rare for anything endo related to show up.
I had one last week to rule out cysts etc, no endo showed. I'm on the waiting list for a diagnostic laparoscopy.
I actually spoke with the sonographer directly about endo & vaginorectal symptoms, transvaginal/ external ultrasound scans & this is what she said, in her explanation:
1) endo won't be seen with ultrasound, including transvaginal. The only way to properly diagnosis it is with a laparoscopy.
2) transvaginal scans don't focus on the vaginorectal area - they're more for examining higher up - ovary & womb areas.
3) I can see that you're ovulating now (no kidding... It was soooo painful)😅!
I would hope your gynaecologist wasn't expecting an endo result from a scan but that is, sadly, the case sometimes because they're not often very well trained or experienced in endo (despite what they might say). Keep pushing for a diagnostic laparoscopy... Although MRI can sometimes show it, it's often missed, as previous replies have stated. If endo is found, it should be treated by a specialist from a BSGE centre - I've heard that excision is superior to laser treatment with regard to thorough endo removal, endo regrowth timescale & endo pain management but please research this as it's something I'm also looking into & don't have all the Intel yet!
Yeah I got fobbed off from nhs too after one of them scans apparently found nothing went private for abdominal scan found cysts both ovaries and swollen tubes. I had surgery private 2 years ago to remove cysts and only then was endo found had frozen pelvis. That surgeon wont now do my surgery as not endo specialist and can't find one private covered by my healthcare so have waited 5 months for appt which is Monday coming to discuss surgery which no doubt will be big wait for. So dont worry rarely picked up on scans x
