Hi everyone, just looking for some advice, about 6 months ago i was referred by my doctors for an ultrasound scan with suspected endometriosis. I'm still waiting but finally got a date! I have also been referred to see a gynaecologist but told there is a very long wait! Would it be worth going private? I've had trouble with my periods since the age of 13 and have tried every contraception possible but the pain has got severe over the last 6 months in my stomach and back and I'm tired all the time! Nothing seems to be taking the pain away, has anyone got any advice? and how long did it take for you all to get the ball rolling and finally get something done about it????

Hi. I’m not sure about nhs wait times as I went privately via private health insurance. I have found the private sector very quick and responsive. I can contact my consultant’s secretary and can normally get an appointment that week. This may vary with different hospitals etc. You could also go on the referral list for NHS and see how long the wait is, although I’m not sure how that process works. Good luck- I hope you get answers soon x

Hi El_20

Hope your doing ok, I suffered since I was 13 really heavy periods been on all pills injections coils etc I saw gyne when I was around 16/17 under nhs they didn’t do much I did have a lap when I was 19 nothing found but was just general gyne who did lap.

I then had emergency surgery as had big bleed.

Years later when I was 24/25 still suffering so I went private it was great but I know not an option for everyone.

Some people just pay to have an appointment with gyne specialist then discuss with them about nhs options.

I had a lap done few years ago under specialist gyne consultant who found endo and adenomyosis so explained all my issues I had been having.

Just yesterday I had a hysterectomy and had everything removed as all my options had runs out if I’m being honest I’m 27.

Sorry if this doesn’t answer your question about nhs waiting times but I hope it helps you maybe explore private option for appointment Xx
