Back pain and conflicting MRI and scan results

Hi - I'm knew here and I have my 4th laparoscopy booked in 2 weeks.

I had my first surgery back in 2012 several years after having my first child. I was found to have endo and had it removed. My second lap was in 2014 as I was struggling to conceive for my second child. Again, endo was found, treated and I had my tubes flushed. Luckily I managed to conceive :)

In 2018, I underwent another operation due to increasing pain , however, little or no endo was found???

Fast forward to now, on I have been in chronic pain since October '20. I have constant lower left back pain, abdominal pain, pain down my legs and pelvis, bloating, sickness, diarrhoea, and excruciating period pain. I am in pain all day every day! I had and MRI done in Nov that found I had deep infilterating endo especially towards my rectum. However, when I had an ultrasound carried out in Dec, he could see no signs of deep endo but suspect that my left ovary is attached to my uterus although he was unable to confirm this. The ultrasound confirmed I have endo again and my consultant has requested to carry out a laparoscopy to see exactly what is happening.

I just wanted to see if anybody else has advice/experience of the following:

1. Different MRI and Ultrasound/Internal results

2. Chronic constant back pain - was endo found to be the cause?

Thank you :)

Chronic back pain, pelvic pain , pain radiating down both legs , groin pain and tummy pain yup xxxx

Morning lovely,

1)MRI is far superior at detecting endo. Its highly unlikely that a sonographer would be able to see it with ultrasound - internal or external, so I'm not at all surprised at the results - it's been most women's experience, as I've seen on this forum.

I have had normal ultrasounds and am waiting for a laparoscopy because my gynaecologist believes I do have endo.

2)Absolutely do read Foofs91's posts as she's mentioned. Endo can be a both a culprit and a complicit factor in the symptoms you describe.

Have you ever been advised on hormone treatments to stop the endo from returning/ slow the endo growth down?

Xx

Hello :) I get horrendous back pain. This month, it’s been so bad I am struggling to do everyday things and even bending down is near impossible. I have my lap booked for Wednesday so I’ll let you know what they say. My pains started only after my daughter too. All down my left side of pelvis and lower left back and down my leg. The flare up have got progressively worse over the past two years and some months I’m in constant pain.

I hope your symptoms improve soon x
