I haven’t actually seen the consultants at the BSGE centre I have been referred to yet but yesterday I went for a renogram at their request.
At the end of the scan the technician said the results should be sent to my consultant in 7-10 days but then also asked me if I had got a follow up appointment arranged already, which I haven’t. I thought it was a little bit strange as he seemed a little concerned but didn’t say anything more.
Anyway today I received a phone call from the Head Nurse Practitioner at the BSGE centre who told me that the scan showed that my left kidney was not functioning at all. In fact the first thing she asked my was had I had my left kidney removed by Stepping Hill Hospital (they were supposed to be handling the urology side of my surgery but decided they didn’t want to get involved and everything should be handled by the BSGE centre which I subsequently & apparently unsuccessfully reported to the BSGE centre) Needless to say I was quite surprised by the question. She was very apologetic and admitted that they though that I had already had a stent fitted by Stepping Hill.
She said their urology consultant may now want to do emergency surgery to fit a stent to try and “save the kidney”
I have to say I am a little bit p*$$ed off that I have phoned them more than once since the beginning of September to check that they were aware that Stepping Hill weren’t going to be doing anything and that they were aware of the issue with my kidney.
To top it off I’ve had a really crappy day at work and now feel completely fed up with it all. Although I have to say they are extremely good with me about my health issues so I really shouldn’t complain.
