Hysterectomy experiences

Evening all,

I wanted to know if anyone had experienced care at Croydon university hospital?

I have been under them for the past few year (happy with the care) and wanted to know other peoples experiences?

So I am due for a hysterectomy in February- I have struggled with coil/ pill- emotionally and pain, ongoing bleeding, heavy bleeding and plus strange symptoms like swelling to hands. Anyway I was put on Zoladex and I felt fantastic, even with the sweats/aches- my head was clear, I felt calm- literally so much better, but then I had to have HRT and it all went wrong.

Initially I was happy about a hysterectomy it then people have suggested I get a second opinion (people without endo). I’m still happy but I know there’s no guarantee that it will work to relieve my symptoms. I have stopped HRT and am just on Zoladex and I already feel better,

Hit me with your experience/ tips and advice x

I had a hysterectomy a couple of weeks ago, too soon to tell how well it’ll work. It was everything, although at the moment not convinced he took anything out, I’m just impatient 🙂I did have enlarged uterus with lots of fibroids and adhesions everywhere. I don’t regret getting it done, I have never liked the idea of it and swore I wouldn’t, but pain makes a difference!

There isn’t a guarantee, it can help to make sure all the endo is excised at the time, reduced chance of recurring. I told the consultant to make sure he got it all.

There’s no harm in getting a second opinion and/or talking it through with GP. Back in Feb after lap, one of the first things the GP said is you’ll end up having a hysterectomy, didn’t believe him at the time.

It’s unlikely you’ll get a response about specific places on here though.

I was scheduled for 16th feb, had my pre-op this week and then found out on Thursday they are having to postpone to March (maybe). I signed mine in November

Absolutely gutted but taking as time to try and build strength (upper body) and lose a little weight. I have found Zoladex has made me gain a lot

Bless you x

So they are only doing emergency operations for those that require overnight stay. It will be reviewed weekly (in line with bed occupancy) but unlikely to change until March- completely understandable.

In the meantime I’m just going to be prepared in the hope that it might happen before the summer. There’s an endometriosis talk on surgery during COVID in February endometriosis-uk.org/civicr...

Wow that was quick, congratulations- how are you feeling about it?

I saw the consultant on Saturday as having a flare and have been given 13/04/2021- she also apologised for it being cancelled
