THRUSH OR NOT

Hello Ladies,

Hope your all well. Just a quick question hopefully you can help me. I've been treated twice now for Thrush. Canestan cream and pessary. Been on Anti-fungal medication twice aswell. Fluconazole. Nothing has worked. I'm still itching there's still white stuff (cottage cheese). It itches that much it starts to bleed in the intimate Area.

If its not Thrush what could it be. Getting sick of been fobbed off from Dr's. Constantly saying its Thrush.

Please help if you can.

Thank you

Sam

Hi Sam I have had bacterial vaginosis several times, it’s itchy, very fishy like. Can the nurse swab you don’t below as you obviously want to get it sorted xx

Hi AllthatGlitters,

My dr has taken a swab, it came back it was Thrush. But sensitive to canestan, Thats why she's tries the Anti-fungal medication. But even that hasn't worked. That's why I'm thinking its not Thrush. The only time I dont get any symptoms or itchy is when I'm in my period.

It’s important to get the right diagnosis if the treatment isn’t working. Not to say it is, but Thrush is assumed most of the time and there are other conditions, I.e. Lichen Sclerosus has similar symptoms as Thrush, but those medications won’t treat it.

Hi sweet,

As moon_maiden says, there could be another diagnosis.

As your swab came back as thrush, it's important to figure out why it's recurring so frequently - I'd say to ask the GP for a full blood count to see if there's anything underlying, triggering an imbalance in your natural bacteria-fungal balance.

Personally, I have some scarring around my sensitive parts from childbirth & these are prone to thrush.

Xx
