Hello I’m due to have a laparoscopy this Thursday coming to remove endometriosis which I have been told is sticking my c section scar and bowel together and consultant said endo in uterus too so said they will do partial hysterectomy remove uterus too to ensure I’m completely free of pain

I’m terrified about going through all this on my own in hospital not even my husband allowed to come with me also I’m only 40 now as they are doing partial hysterectomy I’m concerned if they do that is it like endo could still come back??

And will I get menopause type symptoms after the operation too?

Any kind words on this I would really appreciate as I’m very nervous about the operation

Hi, I hope all goes well with your op. You should only get menopause symptoms if they remove your ovaries. I had a hyst at 42 but my ovaries were left in as they try to preserve them. Unfortunately for me it came back and had a lap 3 weeks ago to have more excised. As for being on your own in hospital it will be fine as the nurses etc are lovely and to be honest when I had my hysterectomy I didn’t want to see anyone as it took too much energy and I just wanted to sleep. Just give yourself plenty of time to recover properly after. Keep us posted on your progress. X

Hi, can’t answer the questions very well. I’m due hysterectomy and I’ve hopefully ensured he’ll look everywhere and remove endo so it doesn’t come back. Unfortunately, as usual, there doesn’t appear to be enough research for anyone to really know. Keep a list of questions to ask for when you go in.

Endo UK site has some info on this. I think part of the NICE guidelines cover it.

Try not to worry about being there without visitors. You’ll likely be tired and not think about it. Make sure you have phone and charger 🙂, you can let us know how you’re going.

I had lap in Feb and didn’t have or really want visitors after, only in one night though.

Hi, wishing you the best for your op. Both my sister and myself had hysterectomies for endometriosis, she had a partial leaving her ovaries and a couple of years later she had the ovaries removed and I had a total hysterectomy at age 43. You will not get menopause symptoms if they leave your ovaries and I understand you are nervous being in hospital but my experience is that the staff are fantastic. You will be exhausted so only having to concentrate on yourself is possibly a good thing. What I will say is that a hysterectomy isn't a cure for endometriosis and since it feeds on estrogen by only removing the uterus this still means the endo can grow. This was my sister's experience and in my case my right ovary was so stuck to the pelvic wall that they had to leave a tiny fragment and this continued to produce estrogen, I didn't go into menopause for a number of years and I still produce endometriomas 7 years later. Go into this as a way to reduce the endo and provide an improvement in your quality of life but please don't expect it to cure all your problems. I hope being frank with you doesn't cause you any upset but I wasn't provided with all the facts before my operation and I think we are entitled to know all the implications when making a big decision regarding our health. Take care xx

I’ll definitely bear in mind what you said about hysterectomy when I go in I’ll ask them about it returning again if leaving ovaries in etc thank you xx
