Tibolone after hysterectomy

Hi everyone I’ve just joined the group and it’s been really helpful reading all your posts. I’ve been diagnosed with adenomyosis after 10years of pain and heavy bleeding. I also have at least two fibroids. I’ve been waiting for a hysterectomy but after 8 months they offered me decapeptyl and tibolone while I wait for the op. I’ve been taking it 3 months and tbh I feel better than I’ve felt in years- reduced pain and my energy levels are amazing. I feel like the old me! Now I have received an appointment for the hysterectomy and I don’t know what to do! I’m just wondering if anyone has continued tibolone after their hysterectomy? I get on so well with it compared to other Hrt I’ve tried.

That’s great the meds worked and you feel better.

When’s your op?

I’m due one, the consultant mentioned about HRT after, you could have a chat with GP in the meantime, this sort of thing they tend to be knowledgeable about.

It’s great that you’ve found something that works for you!

I had two, three month courses of Synarel with Tibolone add back before my hysterectomy in July of this year.

I’m now on Tibolone for the foreseeable, and couldn’t be more pleased! Unlike other hrt’s it stimulates your body to produce its own small amount of hormones. I have previously tried Estrogel, and can safely say that it wasn’t nearly as effective as Tibolone.

If you’re in any doubt about whether to go ahead with the hysterectomy, talk to your gynae. It’s a massive op and you need to be 100% sure it’s what you want.

Good luck! x

Hi, I had a total hysterectomy in 2018, but left my ovaries in, unfortunately the endometriosis came back after 3 months so I had my ovaries removed last November. I was told I’d be taking Tibolone for 12 months because I would go into surgical menopause, like you it seems to work for me but I’m not sure they advise it for long term, it’s definitely something you need to talk to your GP about, I’m having my review in November, I’m hoping they let me stay on it too. 🤞🏻

Hope this helps, take care, let me know how you get on x

Thanks that really helpful to know you can stay on the tibolone. Atm I’m trying to reduce the painkillers to zero so I can gauge how effective the decapeptyl is. If I’m still in pain without analgesics I will go for the op. My pain is definitely reduced. I’m glad things worked out for you and I appreciate you taking the time to get back to me xx
