My abdominal hysterectomy tomorrow just a question... Do you wake up in recovery or wake back in your room with no knowledge of anything lol also will the nurses call my husband to let him know I've gone down to theatre and when I come out??
Recovery: My abdominal hysterectomy... - Endometriosis UK
Recovery
After my lap, I came round in recovery then got moved to the ward. X
Hi N_hen,
I woke up in recovery and the consultant came to speak to me and called my husband afterwards to let him know how it went. After that i was taken up to the ward once i was awake/dosing.
I was last in for surgery so I had my phone with me until i was wheeled down for my surgery so i was able to let him know when i was being taken. I went in on the morning at 7am and had to wait til 12 to be taken for surgery.
Hope your doing ok and not too worried
Louise
I'm terrified I had a melt down this morning and cried my eyes out to my hubby think cos I'm having it open surgery I'm more frightened. Yes I'm last too got to arrive at 12 go down around 4!! Xx
i know its hard, try not to worry. Both my surgeries were open surgery. First was keyhole which turned open then the second was planned open surgery. Try and think of why you are doing it and the positives rather than anything else. Take a book or magazines with you, anything to keep your mind busy x
Yes think il do some reading or something they did say they will give me something to calm me before going down xx
They will look after you, just take it easy and don't be too hard on yourself! x
Thank you xxxx
Yeah you’ll wake up in recovery ward and nurses will be on hand to give you pain meds etc, just make sure to say to the nurses to inform your husband once out of surgery or back on the ward x
Thank you I will do, xx
Yep wake up in the recovery ward, I didn’t have a clue where I was as doped op on drugs, it was a nice feeling. Nothing to be stressed about. Nurses are right at your side the minute you wake up. Xx
Just keep thinking all I have to do is go to the anastetic room and go to sleep then il be awake. Anxiety is so crippling isn't it xxxx
It certainly is. When I had my lap I was really scared as I was lying there ready for it to go ahead and then they had a power cut. I had to wait until the generator kicked in, which made me worse but I guess that’s a unique experience in the operating theatre. I asked the nurse to hold my hand as I was scared, she did, bless her, what an angel x
They must see this every day lol but it still doesn't make it any better xxx
They will be use to people like us lol dignity goes out of the window. Illness makes you vulnerable and someone showing they care can make you feel a bit better x
Yeah your right as long as I wake up and pain is managed il be happy xxxx
I had my stent replaced a couple of weeks ago, they took me straight to the operating theatre and done the anaesthetic there instead of the room before.
They told me before hand that I'll be waking up in the operating theatre and not the recovery room.
All this because of covid, think it was just safer all round. Your operation is bigger so I don't know if it'll be the same. Good luck.
Oh really alot of things have changed haven't they since covid oh I'm dreading it I keep crying. Thank you very very much xxxx
hi. With both my operations I came around in recover and got moved after an hour or so, was fairly out of it, my planned op was mid afternoon and it meant they were happy enough to let me sleep between obs being checked. My first op was an emergency and ended up being open surgery after the keyhole failed, I was very upset by it all, a family friend who is a consultant at the hospital came to visit me, he said that every person in the theatre is totally zoned into keeping the patient safe and you are monitored every second. I found this helpful and when I went in for my planned surgery 9 months later I far less anxious about it. Be kind to yourself whilst you recover, I was in a rush and it made recover longer. Xx
Yes my 1st open surgery was an emergency c section and I was put to sleep for that I've had little ops since then but nothing since I know this is a major op and never had to have any organs removed before which is y am so frightened xxx
hi. Best wishes for today, remember it's something they do all the time, I told the nurse who anxious I was and she was amazing. Hadn't thought about the covid making changes with the recovery but for my planned section everything was done in theatre and it was fine. Get as much rest as you can and look forward to being more comfortable as you recover. Xx
Hi, I was woken up in recovery then must have fallen back to sleep as the next thing I knew, I was in my room! That’s pretty weird. I had my phone in the hospital so I could call or text family when I was round and up to it. But I think my mum called and asked if I was out of surgery just so she knew etc. Good luck! Xx
Awww thank you xxxx
I had also an abdominal hyst this year- after surgery i was in the recovery room where they check ur vitals and make sure u are fully awake and all before they roll u back to your room. In my case I called after i was in my room.
How did you find the surgery how long did it take xxx
I remember they took me at 11.45 and started me with the changing to the op bed then talking to me about how they will sleep me and then I was gone until 16.30 I woke up in recovery room.
I have 3 cuts the abdominal which is the big cut and the 3 small cuts from laparascopie and the little cut from drain!.
First day after it was painful- but nurses and dr were on top on pain managment!. You could ask for stronger pain medicine if you need to- there is no need to be in pain. I was 6 days in hosp.
I had the pee catheter from monday till wednesday and the drainage from monday to tuesday.
Tuesday I tried to get up but couldnt- wednesday I tried again and started little steps and so.
Thirsday I was off all cables and so and took steps in the hallway.
It took me 5 days to go to the “toilet” no. 2 😂 with the help of medicine- i thibk they wouldnt release me if I hadnt gone first.
Ask anything! 😀
Oh god I'm hoping to be out by Saturday lol they said 2 to 3 days!! Does every one have a drain? Xxx
That's a long procedure he said to me he can do it in 90 mins given no complications but if there's complications could be longer up to 4 hours xxx
Hope all goes well today xx
