Ah thanks for the prompt reply! We haven't been together that long but she only takes vitamins, no hormone control meds or birth control from what I know. I think she tried various mental health and endometriosis meds but just gave up
Its BAD. She's coming up 21 and is too young to have surgery
Any suggestions you have (even supplements etc that work wonders ie n-acetyl-cisteine
I don’t think vitamins will cause issues. Hormones could well be unbalanced. Doctors don’t like testing, but will if pushed, also get Vit D and B12 included.
I believe others have had surgery to check out and treat if need be younger than her. There’s a lot of consultants who prefer not to. Has she been to a BSGE centre, they are specialists and work within in a team of other types of consultants. If it’s on or in the bowel, she really needs to get it sorted.
I really wish I could help with treatments, unfortunately I’m relatively new to the diagnosis (Dec) and still discovering what works best. Currently trying Tramadol, which is possibly making things a bit easier.. Diet can help, ie dairy and gluten free, currently trying options. Magnesium may help, it’s good at calming digestion and balancing hormones, women tend to be short of it.
I’m also on Zoladex, this brings on temporary menopause, but can work well. Given her age it’s something that would need discussing with an experienced gynaecologist.
It’s incredibly hard to get the right support for mental health let alone endo, does she have ASD as part of it? If the GP surgery isn’t being helpful, might be worth looking around.
Would she come onto the forum herself, there are great people here? She is incredibly lucky you want to help and find out what’s involved. If it’s too much for her, more than welcome to message, I’m not as experienced with endo as many others though, lots of research and lucky with consultant.
The endo uk website is good and you can speak to someone on the phone.
Hi, it’s lovely that you’re taking an interest in your girlfriend’s health issues.
It’s a very fine line because endo is a lot of things, including hormones. Any imbalance and it flares up, but in your gf’s case she has the added issue of bipolar.
You don’t say how she was diagnosed, but a laparoscopy is the gold standard of diagnosing endo, and then treatment depends on the type of endo, how severe it is, what other medical issues there are, etc. She’s not too young for surgery, if that’s what’s needed.
Have you approached any BSGE centres? They have a list of approved surgeons on their websites, and she’d need to be referred by her GP or gynae. I think her case is (even more) complex because of her bipolar and that would be the best professional medical advice you can get, rather than advice/opinions from a help group.
It does talk about alternative treatments too. It’s very comprehensive.
NAC is good.
Turmeric, ginger, all helps with pains etc.
Protease enzymes helps the body eating up dead proteins but there’s more data for fibroids.
I avoided surgery for five years...but honestly it depends how things are, and the severity of endometriosis. She can always do the hormonal treatments to stop endo from spreading.
Surgery is not the only way to diagnose, if there is chocolate cysts an ultrasound can pick it up. Otherwise there’s MRI that is not invasive.
For bipolar, I don’t have a clue. But for PMDD L-tryptophan helps a lot with sleep and mood. But PMDD is directly related to hormones.
Hormonal treatment should help with mods related symptoms of endo.
