Endometrioma help

Hi everyone,

So I ended up in horrendous pain on Monday night which led to me taking myself to a&e and spending two nights in the hospital.

I had a scan which shown I have a 4cm endometrioma on my left ovary. The surgeon said it is not big enough to remove and just wants to put me on prostap to try and stop the pain.

Does this sound right? I know I shouldn’t want surgery but I also don’t want to just be medicated to mask the pain and not actually dealing with the underlying issue? X

Hey Daniellecx,

Even if they stop the pain, the endometrioma will keep growing.

Don’t let them fool you. Do your research, advocate for yourself and get proper help from proper doctors.

I had a 4,6cm endometrioma on my left ovary 2years ago. Had to go back for scanning every 3month and just watch it grow. In the Netherlands they don’t usually go for surgery, so I joind Nancy’s nook fb group and started to look for a surgeon there.

Had multiple ultrasounds, an MRI but nothing showed how bad things were in there. It wasn’t just one endometrioma. I had stage 3 endo on ligaments, bladder, both ovaries, everything was fused together. No wonder I was in constant pain.

Most of it was removed and since then I am not puking, fainting and going through hell every month. I am still bedridden on the first day of my period, but the level of pain can not be compered to the last 10years.

Don’t give up! If the current doctor is not giving you options, go elswhere.

Take care!

I was told this, you need a new doctor! I think this is the standard approach for ovary cysts but what you have isn’t a normal cyst!

Are you in the UK? What I did was found a gynaecologist who specialises in endo, booked to see them privately (outpatients appointment is about £120-150) discuss your endo with them and they will most likely refer you for surgery under them on the nhs. You would of course go on their waiting list so im not suggesting this is a way of queue jumping, but it at least gets care under the right person xx

I've had the same, they will automatically operate for cysts bigger than 6cm but mine are always 4cm. They can operate for that size if the pain is too much. That is what I pushed for and had second op a few weeks ago, exactly a year from the same last year. Within 2 days of the op the pain is already less than the cysts before, I can now sit up at a desk and dining table and wear trousers again. You just need to keep pushing unfortunately.
