Just as an update for all those who have helped or replied (mainly because I can’t sleep due to a sore stomach) - I have been diagnosed. I went ahead with the laparoscopy with a general gynae this morning, which I had been really concerned about, however I made sure to ask lots of questions and it seems that he had a lot of years behind him and a lot of knowledge, even if not specialised in endo so for that I am grateful. A lot of people had recommended to not go ahead with it for this reason, which is completely understandable, and I can’t help but feel that I got lucky that they spotted it - I am only 21 and quite petite so there was a very stark contrast between the healthy areas and the small area of blackened endo on my uterosacral ligament. I still advise anyone to do what I didn’t do and push for the general gynae with a specialism in endo. I left it far too late and would imagine some cases won’t be as fortunate as me in them actually finding something.

Luckily for me I only have stage 2 mild endo which I feel is the best outcome: am not making it up, yet not so severe that I will need multiple follow ups and surgeries which has left me so relieved. They didn’t attempt to remove what they saw as it was quite minor and feel it can be treated prevented with hormonal treatment, yet don’t know if this is a bit of a cop out because done by general?

Regardless I feel lucky and relieved to even have any answers at all as I expected none, but overall message is 100% push for someone with a specialism, it’s in the NICE guidelines you are entitled to one. If you do get a general for unforeseen reasons it is not always a negative outcome either and there is always still a chance they may see something like mine did today.

hi recently has an ultrasound which has shown a 8cm cyst being referred to gynaecologist being new here what should I expect

Presumably it was limited to the peritoneum over the US ligaments but be aware that when the actual ligaments are involved it is the deep infiltrating type of endo. Sometimes what is shown on the surface is the 'tip of the iceberg' with endo deep within. I'd be sure to monitor any ongoing symptoms suggesting infiltration - lower back/leg pain, pain with sex, bowel issues. x

Thanks I will definitely bare that in mind and keep a record. Should this have been removed during my surgery? Or is mild endometriosis usually left? X
