Hey, I've been privately, and treated sucessfully.
Have a read of my experience:
healthunlocked.com/endometr...
A few recommendations in summary, but happy to help with more detail:
1 There are multiple financial options - pay for the initial appointment and then ask to have a lap on their NHS waiting list, pay privately yourself which can be costly, check out local private hospitals near you and check out their finance options, or if you / partner works and can take out medical / health insurance use that
2 You can choose your specialist so ensure they are endo specialists - check out say my work one WPA - freedom to choose - there's a list of specialists with descriptions. All private clinics have their own website so you can look on there and do a bit of googling of their name to find out more. My center / endo specialist is part of The Gynaecology Group so perhaps use that to start so you get an idea of what to do. It can be confusing
3 Once you've chose one their fees are usually about the same with the first appointment about £200. You can book an appointment directly then tell your GP you would like to be referred to xx and they send the notes to your new private specialist.
4 Have an idea of what you want out of your appointments as you are paying, they're usually about an hour long, so take all your diaries, list of questions and it's always good to have a friend / partner / parent present as it's another set of ears.
5 Be prepared that private can have a quick turnaround with appointments in a week ans laparoscopies in two weeks, but you can choose what and when you want stuff, so no need to wait for a letter, you just book a date with the secretary for the ones your specialist has available.
6 Don't be surprised if they want to do a diagnostic with hysteroscopy, biopsy and excision of endo or anything else all in one lap, that's good as it means you're on the path to recovery quickly
7 They'll want you to start from the beginning and really focus on what experience they have with their other women they treat so it's always good to ask what they expect to find / what their plans are for you / how they think treatment would plan out.
That's a start, it can be daunting, but happy to answer any questions!
Just remember with private what you put in with honesty and managing expectations is what you get out so it's all up to you what you want done. I like that privately they wanted to get to the root cause of my endo rather than hormones; a lap was discussed pretty much right away.
