Hi everyone, I’m currently on a waiting list for a laparoscopy to see whether I have Endo. My consultant has told me to take my Combined pill (Yasmin) without any breaks which at the moment seems to be helping with the symptoms a little bit. I’ve read some women’s stories however where they’ve had a lap which has come back negative, they think because they’ve been taking the pill back to back which has masked the Endo somewhat? Is this possible? I’m not sure whether to carry on as I am or come off the pill until my lap so that I’m in a ‘natural state’ if that makes sense! Any advice would be much appreciated xx

So I had exactly the same situation by my endo specialist. I just thought at the time the combined pill was an alternative as opposed to a laparoscopy and indeed my symptoms reduced slightly too. Little did I know, my specialist had planned a laparoscopy and a hystereoscopy months in advance.
I recently had these surgeries after being on the pill non stop for five months and he still found and treated a moderate amount of endometriosis, much more than what was expected. What I’ve read after some research into this is, in younger women especially the combined pill is given to reduce the size of endometriosis, for the chances of laparoscopic surgery to be more effective and successful. I’m yet to see how I feel as it’s only been 10 days post op - but hopefully in the long run it’ll reduce the pain. My best advice to you is make sure you trust the surgeon that will be performing your procedure. I made a mistake of having my first laparoscopy, last year in July, with surgeons who were beyond skeptical of my pain and symptoms and as a result wasted time by even doing it with them (they claimed to have found nothing and shrugged me off to the gastro department) With my first surgery I wasn’t on the pill, therefore technically they should have had more chances in finding a more severe case of endo - so they clearly didn’t do the operation properly as it lasted 10 minutes. I then found a specialist who I really trust and so far he’s been the one to diagnose/treat me for adenomyosis and endometriosis. So it is important to have a doctor you really trust that is carrying out your treatment.
