Potential menopause at 19...any help/advice much appreciated!

I was diagnosed with endometriosis in March 19, but have been suffering severe hot flushes and night sweats for months now. I have switched my endo medication and my anti-depressants twice (incase it was these causing this) yet suffering with them worse than ever. I am about to undergo blood tests etc as my doctor suspects I may be experiencing menopause. I am only 19 so this is very daunting aspect and has really got to me as I would love children. I am due for my second depot injection (as treatment for endo, although not working, and obviously a contraceptive), however I am debating waiting to book this is till after my menopause results, as if menopause is the case, I do not want to be protected from pregnancy if there is a small chance of me having children. I would love some advice on what to do, with my depot injection, potential of menopause and help with hot flushes. Thank you!

Hi Thesnork , I also get severe night sweats and was concerned that I might be experiencing early menopause, however, blood tests came back that I’ve got an average no. of eggs left for my age and so this is really unlikely. I haven’t gotten to the bottom of what causes the night sweats (maybe it’s endo related?), but I hope this is a little reassuring for you. Your results might come back fine too, in which case it may actually be your antidepressants. I’ve been on numerous SSRIs over the years and many caused me sweating and flushes. If you’re on an SSRI it might just be that like me you’re sensitive to them no matter what specific type.

I’ve been prescribed Clonodine, which I take when sweats are bad and that helps. I also sleep with a change of PJs and a fresh duvet next to my bed to make it as quick as possible to get back to sleep if I wake up with sweats.

I hope you get an answer soon, I’d be interested to know if anybody else has these symptoms too and whether it could be related to endo. I know how worrying and exhausting it can be to deal with.

Thankyou so much for that, that is really reassuring to know.

Does the Clonodine help you at all?

I’m glad :) I know it’s hard, but try not to worry too much until you have the results back.

Yes, it definitely helps me. My sweats are at night so I just take two tablets then, but you can take them through the day if you need to. I was advised that they can cause dizziness and tiredness but I haven’t experienced that myself, but that’s possibly because I take them at night and also not everyday. Worth discussing with your gp as an option x
