Won’t do a laparoscopy

Has anyone else been told by their gynaecologist that they won’t perform a laparoscopy because they’re too young?? I’m 21 next week and already have PCOS, but they’re pretty sure I have endo too. I’m not really sure what I think about it. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi GeorgiaLouise, I don't even know what they mean by too young! I'm the same age as you and I've been referred for a lap. People have had them much younger too. If you want to go down the surgery route I would ask for a second opinion from a different gynecologist and see what they say.

I hope you get some answers soon x

Hello unfortunately this is does happen it is horse sh*t, endometriosis doesn't only affect people after a certain age.

Are you based in the UK? If so ask for a second opinion and ensure that the gynaecologist has a specialist interest in endo (this is a requirement on the NHS but isn't always followed). It'll also be worth you reading up on the NHS NICE guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of endo which clearly states that age isn't a reason to not perform surgery to confirm a diagnosis of endometriosis.

OMG! You need urgently a second opinion you are in your rights to have a diagnosis and the only way to find out it’s by having a laparoscopic surgery!!! You are not too young endometriosis does not care about your age ... this infuriated me how little attention doctors pay to endometriosis!! It is a serious condition, I am now infertile because of the waiting time to be seen by specialist and when I was diagnosed first nobody guided me or explain to me what endometriosis actually is and what are the consequences...

PLEASE go back to your gynaecologist and ask for a diagnosis to be done! You have your right to know what’s happening to you and the “too young” phrase it’s just a crappy excuse!

Hope you get it sorted xxx

Yep, I’m 24 and every single consultant and GP I have seen have told me I’m too young!

Yes i had scan at 19 which showed pcos and i was in extreme pain.. periods were horrendous ..

I begged for a hysterectomy which i was told they wouldn’t do as i had not had children yet even though i told them i did not want them...

Now im 44, i had one lap which showed endo and now they say just see it out il b at menopause soon!!!

So they keep guessing my life for me ( i would want children.. I STILL DO NOT... and now they wont coz im old)

I was told by a friend whose a nurse that they have to treat you the cheapest way now as there no money in the nhs pot basically!!! So no ops aless ur seriously ill...

Endo has to to b dealt by with pill, coil, pop, implant anything but any ops....

So yes i know how u feel.. i feel like ive had to put up with this all my life.
