Hyperplasia?

Hi. Did anyone have Hyperplasia ruled out first before Endometriosis was diagnosed? Or the suggestion it was Hyperplasia before Endometriosis?

I (and some other ladies I know of) received hysteroscopies for biopsy first off to rule out anything else before proceeding further. This includes checking for hyperplasia. It does not cause all of the symptoms of Endo but can cause its own issues.

I think it is fairly routine to go down this route first as it is less costly and invasive with less risks (than a lap) and the biopsy they take at the time can rule out other possible existing issues like cancer.

If you are really pain sensitive (especially with penetration/vaginal exams) and/or suffer with extreme anxiety I would suggest requesting any hysteroscopy under a GA. Some people manage ok with them. I had my second under a GA and am really glad I did. (Penetration and exams are usually really painful for me and I also suffer from anxiety - general and social).

Good luck!

Hi. Thanks so much for replying. You’ve kind of put my mind at ease in that it seems it’s just routine and not necessarily because they think it’s Hyperplasia. The gynaecologist said the appointment was for a Hysteroscopy but when I got my letter it said I was having a Laparoscopy under a local anaesthetic. But isn’t a laparoscopy just the name for when biopsies are taken at the same time as camera having a look? I had a lletz about 8 years ago for CIN3 smear result but I had that under general anaesthetic. But I know this is different. Anyway...will try not to worry and hope Monday comes round quickly. Thanks again x

With a lap they use an incision. A hysteroscopy is via your vaginal opening. They didn't offer me a local when I had mine the first time, just told me to take my usual pain meds before hand. All in all it only takes about 15 min from the time you get in the chair/table and when you get off. They may offer you gas and air as well.

They will have you stay for a bit in a waiting area and probably offer you a drink and a biscuit while you are waiting (or you might want to take a drink and small sugary snack with you). It is just to make sure that you don't unexpectedly bleed more than you should or have an unexpected reaction. I recommend taking your own pads (rather than having them give you an NHS one) and something to amuse yourself while waiting. You will not be able to use tampons or a cup (anything you insert) until you heal.

I wore a loose skirt and only had to remove my underwear and hike up my skirt - nicer than having to get completely undressed below the waist in my opinion, but wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. You will get wet as they use water as a lubricant.

If you have the option of having someone come with you they are unlikely to be allowed through for privacy of the other women also having the procedure, but it is nice to have the moral support of someone waiting for you.

Good luck. I am sure it will all be fine. Just remember that you are able to tell them to stop at ANY time for ANY reason so don't be worried about not being able to stop if you are unhappy about anything once the procedure starts.

Okay...Bit confused about whether it’s a laparoscopy or not but will just have to wait and see. My partner is coming with me, and I’m being seen in a private hospital as luckily have health insurance so think I will just be in a room on my own as opposed to a ward. I’ll let you know how I get on. 😊

Hi. So I had my Hysteroscopy this morning. I wasn’t expecting it to hurt as much as it did. She said she inserted some local anaesthetic gel, but I could feel each biopsy she took. It was really not v nice, and I burst into tears as soon as she stopped (which actually only was about 10 mins). I’ve been in bed all day with a hot water

bottle & painkillers as have lots of cramping. So now I have to wait 10-12 days for the results 😕 Just want an answer to all of this so I can move on, it’s really affecting my day to day life and I don’t know how much longer I can cope with it 😢
