When can you see an endo specialist

I had my 3rd lap done 5th sept. Got my review tomorrow. He isn’t an endo specialist but reading my notes from op it stated adhesions triggered by endometriosis. multiple endo deposits of various stages with some quite old well established with nodular and contractions. Found in both ovarian fossae and pelvic side walls, along path of right urterer, on each ovary, on right infandibular lig and deep in pelvis well established on rectum. Very large raw area in pelvis both sides and all of the pouch of Douglas. Two right tubal cysts and endometrioma excised from left ovary and all ovarian deposits excised.

Also had a scan this week and I have another new cyst on left ovary and collection of fluid near right side.

It’s a lot worse this time around and wanted to know with all these findings can I ask him to be referred to a specialist?

I’m in wales. He’s a general gynaecologist but he specialises in fertility. I want to know that tomorrow I can ask him to refer me to a endo specialist. It’s awkward as I really like him and he’s been great with me but I don’t want to go another year in the pain I’ve been in. My hospital doesn’t have an endo specialist. The closest is about 40 minutes away. I don’t know my rights really. Do you think I can go in tomorrow and request he refer me and not take no for an answer?

I think that you can lovely. He won't take it personally either, so don't worry about that. You are perfectly within your rights to consider seeing a specialist

Good luck xxxx

Hi Laura!

I hope your review went well?

Just catching up with posts from the last week and spotted yours.

With the Endo all over your PoD, it means it's deep infiltrating and that means you must be seen by an Endo specialist at a specialist Endo Centre. That is your right anywhere in the U.K. I had a lovely general gynae that diagnosed me with my first lap but she totally undestood when I requested a specialist centre outside of my local county for further tests and surgeries. A general gynae won't touch bowels (or shouldn't try!). At a centre they tend to work with multi teams and several consultants will be in your excision surgery from different specialisms (e.g. Gynae, colorecta, urology, thoracic, gastronomic etc). Hope this helps x

Thanks for reply. Had some information from the endo site on fb and a lady researched my consultant and it stated he had interests in endometriosis. Review wasn’t great I asked to be referred to an endo specialist or endo nurse and he wasn’t happy, he answered abruptly saying why would he do that as he is an endo specialist. I asked what stage it was and he said he didn’t like to stage it but said it was 3 bordering 4. I thought it sounded severe. He also said he would expect me to be pain free. He’s sending me for a scan in 3 months to check on the cyst and area of old blood and that’s it. I felt like he didn’t believe that I was still in pain. It’s awkward because I do believe that he was thorough reading the notes but I don’t want it to get this bad again and I’m still struggling with pelvic pain.x
