So here’s the background! I had a hysterectomy in April where they found a cyst and endometriosis they scraped it away and left my ovaries. Everything was fine for 3 weeks then I started getting pain in my left lower side and back then every few weeks it’s in both sides and across my stomach like severe period pain. I’ve been back and forward from the gynae for months, I had a scan on Monday to see what’s happening and then saw my gynae yesterday (Tuesday) he said the cyst hasn’t returned but the endo has. He put me on the spot and gave me 2 options cut me open and operate again or do medication to stop my ovaries working and a small amount of hrt for 6 months. I choose the meds was this the right choice?? I had problems with the pill giving me severe depression will they hrt do the same thing?? The pain at the minute is also bad some days I feel like crying and struggle to walk for the pain will the injections help this?? My head is so confused! Help what’s everyone’s opinion?

Help!! Have I made the right decision??
Hi as you will see when you read other peoples posts on here that it is very hard to remove all endometriosis and the fact you still have your ovaries Which produce oestrogen which feeds endometriosis is probably why you are still suffering.
The injection works great for some it didn’t for me personally but you will not know until you try it. I would never have it again but others have had a lot of relief from it including a close friend of mine.
As for the hrt effecting you’re mood/mental health it was the injection itself that effected my mental health as it is a forced chemical menopause and I literally could not get out of bed for at least 6 weeks.
I have found some very useful information on professor stubbs website about hrt and it’s positive effects on mental health.
There is so much valuable information on this site too and you will read many different opinions and experiences as we are all unique.
What I do know is that endometriosis can still remain after a full hysterectomy including removal of the ovaries as it can be microscopic and then flair up with Hrt / oestrogen but I am still opting for a full hysterectomy myself.
As we know there is no current cure for endometriosis and so we all have to try and work out what is best for ourselves which can be very confusing and frustrating.
My friend had great relief from the injection (prostap) she did take antidepressants with it and hrt, which is one of the reasons I tried it as I saw her quality of life improve.
But my experience was nothing like hers I felt so unwell (I don’t want to scare you) you can read my previous post “prostap hell” If you wish.
So there are two completely different experiences whilst taking the same medication.
It is a difficult decision to make especially when you are in such pain but maybe read some other people’s posts and then try to decide what is best for you.
I am currently waiting to have a full hysterectomy in December removing my last ovary too and then I shall use a very small amount of body identical hormones (available on the nhs) and go from there.
Take care x
My gynae wasn’t very informative he didn’t tell me much or what I would get just that I would need to go to my gp in 3 weeks for the first injection to bring on the menopause and stop my ovaries working and then have a small amount of hrt. I’m already on anti-depressants that have something in them to control my hot flushes as they got really bad after my hysterectomy I felt like I was going to pass out all the time. I’ll give your other post a read cause I’m already in terrible pain some days it’s bearable but other days I can’t walk properly for the pain and pain killers don’t touch it. I opted to try the medication first cause I only started my job at the end of February, then had my hysterectomy In April and ended up being off for 9 weeks so I don’t want to take more time off in case they sack me x
Yeah
I’m on month 1 of zoladex injection to produce menopause. My next injection is 4/11/19. The first 10 days I was in incredible pain and really emotional. Apparently it’s common for it to flare your symptoms at first before things improve. Wish I knew that before I had it so at least I was expecting it. It was a bit of a shock to me and I was pretty bed ridden. On my second injection they’ll consider HRT if I need it, can’t tell at the moment because the pain I felt in the first place might have made me all emotional rather than the drop in oestrogen. X
