endo friends?

I am 24 and currently going through a really rough time with pain from my endo and am starting to realise no one close to me really understands what its like to be in pain most of the time and have to miss out on commitments due to it.

I've decided to reach out and see if theres anyone else out there that is going through the same thing that may need someone to talk to/vent to that knows what its like to suffer from endo :)

Hey,

I'm really sorry you feel like this. I feel like I'm alone some days and other days I feel like giving up

Unfortunately, even your closest people won't really know what it's like. I find it hard even with my partner, despite living together for the past 2 years, I sometimes feel so alone in this! But you have to be kind and gentle with yourself and your body - getting angry with it and feeling hopeless are all valid responses, but making peace with what it is is also really important. I've found physiotherapy and yoga really help me get back to who I am, and not just someone defined by pain. Venting on here helps too! We understand! Hope your pain subsides a bit soon - even if people don't really understand, hugs are just as good.

you are so sweet, i hope you arent feeling too bad.

i have tried yoga but find stretching seems to make things a little worse, is there any lighter excersice you could recommend? my dr wont refer me to any pain management sadly.

I think how much exercise you do is a really personal thing - perhaps you are pushing yourself too much with yoga, and need to be more gentle/change the type of stretching you do. I've never been to see one but I know that there are women's health physios. They are available on the NHS but it might be worth ringing someone direct to see what they suggest. I just think that doing things that actually help to relieve the inflammation, rather than just mask the symptoms like pain relief, need to be part of our routines as chronic pain sufferers. There's never any guarantee that we will be pain free, but getting into a positive routine making active choices about wanting to heal, has to be good thing. I go to physio nearly every week and it has helped me so much - mentally and physically.

Unfortunately our type of disease leaves us within a system that wants us to be operated on and given drugs. The holistic approach is often ignored and we end up going through all sorts of confusing medical cycles before we find what works for us, often fighting to be heard and to be treated. I find taking control over my diet, exercise and other alternative treatments, means I am better equipped to deal with the pain, and the mental side effects of it all.

Good luck in your pain management quest - we are here when you need us!

I dont think people understand how debilitating this illness is and how much pain we are in and how it effects our daily lives. I have some really dark days in pain, which then effects my mental health and that’s when I feel alone. Just to say you are not alone on here and we understand xx

Thank you. its somtimes hard to remember you arent struggling on your own, and there are people out there suffering just as much as you. i wish there was more support groups around for people dealing with chronic illnessness

Yeah I don’t know of any support groups and women in my circle don’t speak about woman’s problems either x

Yes I feel so alone at times as we r the ones in pain and nobody else feels what we r feeling. I keep going then suddenly crash and have real bad days of crying non stop. I just want this out and now. It takes over your whole life and the worse thing is trying to carry on on a daily basis. It’s such a struggle. The support group is good. X

Hi ilytotoro,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having a bad time at the moment. Endometriosis UK have a network of support groups around the UK. Our support groups are a good way of meeting other women with endometriosis and getting support and information. You can find out if there is a support group near you on our website endometriosis-uk.org/find-a.... If there is not a group near you then you could consider joining one of our online support group meetings endometriosis-uk.org/suppor....

If you need someone to talk to you could try ringing our Helpline, this is staffed by women who all have experience of endometriosis, they can offer support, information or just a friendly listening ear. The Helpline number is 0808 808 2227, opening times can be found on our website endometriosis-uk.org/helpline.

Best wishes
