Ive got my laparoscopy in three weeks and I’m just wondering if there is anything I should ask in my pre op and when meeting the consultant before the op?
I’m still yet to meet my consultant so I feel like there should be a lot of things to ask him but I’m drawing a blank.
Thanks in advance for any reply’s xx

So if your op is with the NHS the preop will just be with the preop team not the surgeon. And they'll do height weight, mrsa swabs and things like that. They can only really answer general questions about surgery not specific to your surgery.
As for what to ask when you see the surgeon on the day. I'll be honest I didn't ask anything. I'd already researched my gynecologist to check they had a specialist interest in endo so would know what they were looking for and that was enough for me to trust whatever result they gave me. Which was a confirmed diagnosis of endo and staging etc.
Hi I had my laparoscopy today. I didn’t meet my consultant and the pre op nor today. The pre op I saw a health care assistant who took my blood pressure, pulse, weight and height and then I had to complete a medical history questionnaire and discuss my answers with a nurse. I also had a nurse listen to my heart and lungs and they also made me open my mouth and stick out my tongue to check my airway. I therefore didn’t get a chance to really ask any questions expect any general op questions. Today I saw a dr before my op but I didn’t meet my consultant. They were however able to answer all my laparoscopy related questions which to be honest wasn’t very much other than recovery time, getting a sick note xx
Thank you for your reply I think I’m just getting nervous as I’ve never met him and I don’t know much about him other than he has an interest in menstrual disorders, how are you feeling since your laparoscopy? Hope everything went well for you xx
Have you googled your consultant? I found a NHS page on the hospital website about my consultant so I felt relaxed with them doing the op and trusting them. The only thing I was worried about was the general anaesthetic as I’ve never had one before. Turns out it was nothing to worry about! I was under for about 1.5 hours as they diagnosed three small patches of superficial endometriosis and I agreed before going in for surgery that they could do any treatment they thought necessary so they have removed by excision two patches. I initially had some pain when I woke up and was given I think fentanyl to start than a dose of oramorph. My tummy pain is now just a bit of discomfort, main pain is from the gas getting stuck under my collar bones and my shoulders. I’m fine lying down/sitting but when I stand up it’s painful. They gave me some codeine to come home with and have signed me off work for 2 weeks but I don’t feel too bad atm xx
I’ve googled him and just found a little bio about his interests, and that doesn’t sound too bad I’m hoping I’ll be returning to work after 2 weeks max ahaha I can’t afford more time off, i hope you have a quick recovery xx
I’m sure he will be fine. They I initially said 2-3 weeks but I have a desk job and barely move all day so they said they would sign me off for 2 weeks but I could be ok to go back before. I’m planning to take this week and just see how I feel. Good luck with your pre op/op, let me know how you get on xx
