Anyone else diagnosed with Anaemia?

Hello ladies

I had bloods this week as I've been suffering a lot with my endo pains and my periods getting heavier, as well as dizziness, feeling weak, tired constantly, ears randomly ringing, having a cough for nearly 2 months I cant shift, being "out of it" all the time, looking pale, and I've been told I have iron deficiency anaemia which explains these symptoms!

They think that the obvious reason I have anaemia is down to the endometriosis, especially as sometimes I can be bleeding for 10 days at a time, as well as a day or so of heavy spotting in between periods most months, and also that they are becoming very clotty. I'm now taking 2 Spatone sachets a day, as the iron tablets always made me feel poorly and unable to go to the loo, which would be horrid as I get so much rectal pain with the endo. I have my first surgery in August where the consultant will also treat any endo that's spotted, so I am hoping that I can get my levels up before then as I will be unable to have the operation otherwise. I'm upping my intake of good quality beef and leafy greens too, as well as iron fortified foods and taking multivitamins.

Has anyone else ended up with anaemia as a result of endometriosis?

Hi I have anaemia which is very low, due to adenomyosis. It’s no wonder when you bleed, clot and flood your clothes with blood that we will become anaemic :( I always get iron tablets but they stop me going to the toilet, I have bowel issues too & not going can make me extremely ill. Have you been told to get your blood checked again? ;)

Hey, I'm anaemic due to my endometriosis. I take iron tablets. Like you, before my op, I ate more food high in iron. And the hospital advised me to take my iron tablets regularly (sometimes I forget to take them) because my iron was low.

On the day of my surgery, they checked my blood again. They said there is a small possibility of having a blood transfusion, but not very likely because the iron level would have to go seriously low. So they didn't seem too phased.

I empathise with you about feeling weak and tired all the time. It's a struggle.

Thank you for your replies girls, it's good to know I'm not alone but I'm so sorry you have to put up with the anaemia too on top of the endo stuff!

I have to have my bloods checked again in a month, then I guess depending on the results check them again sometime before my surgery in August. And I agree, it's not a surprise really with all the bleeding is it, I suppose they'll be bleeding from the endo as well we wont see. Ugh. It's good to hear though that there is a chance they'll do it even if it is a bit low with the iron, though I'd prefer to get it to a good level again beforehand. It's all so blummin scary and complicated with endo isn't it! I will mention all this at my pre op too.

I have been low on iron for years, on and off, all I get is iron tablets. You would think there would be something else available x

I think I may be anaemic as I’ve had a lot of breakthrough bleeding on the pill and spotting thereafter. It’s impossible to get appointment with my GP. I’ll have to wait until next week. What were the standout symptoms for your anaemia? My symptoms are extreme tiredness (more than the ‘normal extreme’ !). Headaches, pale look, most of all, feeling really out of it, can’t focus, eyes going out of focus. Feels like I’ve taken a bunch of antihistamines!! Does this sound similar?

Sorry you've been putting up with all this too! I just had the stuff I mentioned in my first post really, dizziness, feeling weak, tired constantly, ears randomly ringing, having a cough for months I can't shift (still have it now on and off), being "out of it" all the time, looking pale and run down.

I'm due for repeat bloods in a couple of weeks to see if my levels have gone up, I've been taking 2 Spatone sachets a day as I can't tolerate the iron from the doctors, just does my stomach in, horrible stuff.

Hope you get in at the GP's soon, just don't back down, keep nagging until you get the help, as bad as it is!

Ok good to know. Hopefully it won’t take too long to get bloods and get sorted. I’ll keep the name of those sachets in mind if I need to take them. Best of luck with your results. Thanks!
